Subs - 2 8s or 1 10?
#2
I struggled with this for months, but went with two 8's because of practical reasons.
Basically, I think the 8's might be tighter (example Steely Dan, rock, jazz), but won't hit as hard and deep as the 10 (example Rap). Others may differ....

I went with (1) 10" Alpine Type R and could not be happier. I prefer the single 10" for sound, but (2) 8" subs can look very cool if you display them right.

ive got 2 10s and they hit hard and clean. I couldnt be happier
its more than enough for what i listen to. Its perfect for when I listen to rock and what not. And when im feeling a little notorious and gangsta, it hits hard for the rap and r&b stuff as well.

I am running 2 Image Dynamics 8's and love the way they sound. Very tight and clean and go plenty low IMHO. I will be posting pictures of my system this weekend so you can see how nice they package in the rear well with an amp. Oh, I have CDT HD three ways in the doors with upstage tweeters in the A-pillars and the two eights have no problems keeping up.

how much power are you giving them? I am thinking of getting something that can handle 300wrms a piece.
(not looking forward to this, since i'll have to do some custom fiberglassing...ugh!)
i wonder how a single 8w7 would compare against my image dynamics id12v3..... fej..you gotta be reading this soon... what do you think. oh no, i just hijacked the thread. i guess canesfins can use this information too :-)

Scott I think the jump from one 12" down to 2 8's might be fairly big unless you allow for a serious 8" (read 8w7). They just won't play as low or push the air needed for the low notes as well as more cone area will. They sure as hell with give you some punch though. Maybe go 10" in a tight enclosure with a built in amp rack? Or just call qlogic for knew's box
Proper box and quality power can open eyes however, and I am sure you could make 2 8's rock.

But it appears the Image Dynamics are very reasonable ($85 a piece). I guess there are not significant quality differences between the speakers since the subs keep up with the components. I like this set up of 2 8inch subs, and subthump will do a box for 2 inch subs.

Scott fx,
Hey, hows it goin, I'm running about 200-225 watts to each of my eights and they sound great. I have had everything from eights to fifteens over the years and to me the biggest difference is the eights just don't get boomie like the larger sizes. At one time I liked that, just not for me now. The eights I currently have are very strong sounding and musical, everything I was looking for.
canesfins,
Yup, the CDT's are not cheap but they have excelent sound and they take power very well. Actually, I am still dialing in the system and it seems the more I give em the better they do.
I'll take some pics soon, this weekend, and post.
