Just had mine done by local dealer. Onstar is running a
deal right now == one year pre-paid service + $15 for
the conversion. Involves some programming and you get
a new phone number.
They ordered the parts when I was in getting my BCM
reflashed and had them in a week. Did change in less
than 4 hours.
I was going to get safe & sound anyway so $15 is cheap.

All you have to do to upgrade your OnStar to digital is to first print out this form and fill it out:
Take this completed form to your Chevy dealership and they will get the numbers off of your current OnStar module and order a new digital unit for you. Once the new part comes in they will install it. The cost will be $15 for the install and you will have to purchase a 1 year subscription in the amount of $199 for the "Safe and Sound Plan".
Good luck.

I had it done on my TB, it is VIN coded and can not be done at home.
