Amp rack started!!
Well as some of you guys know, I have a PPi amp DCX 1000.4 and have had it on a amp rack base in my car for some time. Today I had time to start building a cover for it that goes over the base. The base raises the amp up around 3/4" and therefore hides the wiring. This cover will have a plexi glass top that will be flush mounted with the wood. I guess it will be time to get the router out tomorrow,lol. The cover is arched a little to flow with the curvature of the amp. I still lack sanding, routing, and of course the carpeting. I am thinking of maybe having different plexiglass inserts for shows and such. The plexi glass inserts will have logos such as Z06, NVTHIS, etc. and some will have a painted background with the logo, etc. Just some thoughts I have been tossing around in my head. I can also take the cover off if I decide to to show off the entire amp. Here some progress I made today.

Thanks Guys!! I will probably add a fan or two. I just haven't figured out where I want to place them,lol. At least with this setup, I can take the cover off if the need arises.

put 2 holes on each of the ends, having 2 fans on each end (or 1 hole and one big fan on each end)... one side pulling air into the amp rack and one side pushing it out. should keep air going across the amp that way as well. wouldn't that work?

here is a trick... put a filter on the fan that is pushing air into the rack and put a slower moving fan (you can just drop the voltage on the + lead) on the exhuast side. this will keep possitive pressure inside the rack (forcing air out of any openings) and keep everything nice and clean by controlling the quality of the air that is going inside

i Stronly reccomend a "quick open" feature that allows easy access to the amp controls. This can be as simple as a hinge mount to the anchor board.

i had a few ideas up my sleve when my original design had a plexi cover, but one that i kinda liked was having the plexi window on a solenoid an have it either raise or lower wehen the amps turne on to let air in or out.
oner idea is to have the window slide out of the way
or hve it slide about two inches to expose a fan (ie: have the fan glued to the plexi so it was exposed when the window slid to the right)
or have the window rotate a few degrees at the top and a few squirrel fans (slot fans) blowing exhaust out the opening
those are all the ideas i could remember.
nvthis, if you want i have a lead screw hanging around somewhere if you are thinking about some automation. a car antenna could also work

Hmmm! That's a neat idea Scott! I may have to take you up on that offer! I don't know how drastic I want to go yet, so I'm just fiddling around. I got a little more done to the box today. I finished sanding and routed out for the plexi. I also got the plexi cut!! Now I am wondering if I should carpet it or what, lol?? I also got to get some nice screws and countersink them down into the plexi, where they will look nice. Here's some of today's progress.

Lol! Thanks! I am currently building fiberglass boxes for the corners for my Diamond Audio D308's. I'm always changing my sub stage,lol.

I believe on those amps you can also unscrew and take off the silver pieces. You'll get a nice black finish on the actual amp (similar look to old PPI's before the DCX). You can always do a complete flush mount with the top so you'll have air there plus run the push/pull from the bottom.
That'll kill the swappable plexi idea plus you'll have some empty screw holes in the amp though ...
