Default Pressure Bleeder cap?

Is any one using a pressure bleeder? I tried rigging up a cap to work with the pressure bleeder I have (from Steve D. at ultimate garage) but the cap will not seal.

Also any tricks for cycling the ABS pump during a bleed?

Thanks

Jeff

I made a second disk of thin cardboard to go under the rubber gasket. To make a better seal I coated the cardboard with motor oil.

I bought a c5 m/c cap from the Cheby dealer, drilled a hole in the top of it to fit a brass barb fitting the sealed the fitting and hole with silicone. Seals good and tight everytime for me.

No need to cycle the ABS. Just pressurize the M/C (make sure it's full) then bleend each wheel, checking the M/C each time to make sure there's enough fluid in it.

Although I put a quick disconnect fitting, then used regulated air to 15 psi. A few air leaks, but nothing a 30 gal, 5 hp compressor can't keep up with.

Bleed one corner, then add some fluid to the MC. Repeat as necessary.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

You should make every effort NOT to contaminate the brake system with petroleum products. If you need to wet the cardboard, maybe use brake fluid?

I use the Kent Moore cap from GM. I also use Nitrogen, just to keep moisture out. About 15-20psi is max.

The only reason you would need to cycle the ABS is if you run the master cylinder dry, and if you do, you need a Tech2.

btw, I used an OEM cap for my clutch bleeding. Just drilled a hole, then screwed a quick-release air fitting in. It leaks a little, but like said above, not enough that I can pressure the fluid through.

Default Kent Moore?

David:

What is a Kent Moore cap? I put the fitting in my oem cap thinking it would be the best seal and purchased an AutoZone for driving. MY OEM cap just doesnt seal well enough to be effective for me.

Is any one using the pressure bleeder that looks like a 1/2 gal pump bottle. You put the fluid in the bottle and it feeds the MC. If so what brands are reccomended?

Thanks

Jeff

Iam using the Motive GM POWER BLEEDER (Model 0108).
The cap is metal, but might need some shimming to give a good seal.

I'm using that one. I use it on my Z06, wife's Monte, and daughters Grand Am. No problems with the seal at all. Holds the pressure just fine.

Kent Moore providers GM specialty tools to GM dealers. You can request a catalog. Maybe Dave will come back with part #.

I've been meaning to get one of these, and your post put me over the edge. I just ordered it. Thanks for the link!

Go to PFYC.com - they sell the late model GM caps (I have one - fits perfect) separately - just email them.

I just bought the Motive power brake bleeder, it says it works on late model GM, but its the screw on type cap. Which one has the right cap?
I see the right one on PFYC.com, but I don't want to spend another ~$50 just for a cap.

I have the motive PB with the chain-on top...not bad, but I pumped it up to 15psi and then opened one of the bleeders...no juice!!!
I still needed my friend to pump the brakes to get any fluid out the bleeders...
This is supposed to work without pumping the brake pedal, right?
Any reason why it wouldn't work?

Thanks,
ace

I have been using the Motive Power Bleeder for GM cars for a year now. The cap on the bleeder is plastic and fits the master cylinder reservoirs on both my Z and my Tahoe. The service manual says to use a pressure of 25 psi and I tried that the first time I used the Motive but the cap allowed brake fluid to push around the seal and run down the M/C. As long as I keep the pressure below 20 the cap works well and I have had no problems bleeding either vehicle.

I have a 3-way valve with stop-***. It is an icemaker valve I purchased from Lowe's or Home Depot.

There are two pieces of rubber under the cap held in with a brass nut on the bottom of the 3-way valve.

Why three way? When I am finished bleeding a caliper and want to take the cap off the MC, I release the stop-*** to let the pressure out of the MC. That way brake fluid does not spash onto paint or what ever.

Best Pics I had.

I bought the GM adapter that goes with the Motive bleeder.. it works great, and since I only put fluid in the master and not in the pressure bleeder bottle, cracking the top of the bottle to release pressure (like their instructions say) doesn't splash anything since it's all over in the M/C.

The generic cap was a royal PITA, but the GM specific cap is great!

80% of the shops I go into use the Vacula Products VP-18-9989 single person bleeder and refiller. It's probably a bit pricey for a hobbiest but happens to be on sale for the month of September. It has a universal bleed screw fitting. You're using suction at the caliper, not preasure at the M/C to bleed the system. ABS compatible. Compressor manditory. Everyone who has one of these loves it.
PM me for pricing info.
