Default brake fluid-what do you recommend

For road racing applications what brake fluid do you recommend. I am using Wilwood brakes with their E series pads(street/road race pad).

Thanks.

Castrol SRF the best by far. Cheaper because it last longer with less bleeding in between. 65 for a liter but worth evry penny. I went 999 miles no bleed I was used hard and all track miles. It was shot by then but it last a long time.

Most importantly, fresh.

After that, it depends on how hard you're tracking the car. With typical aggressive street pads, most likely any good DOT 3/4 fluid will be OK, as long as it's fresh.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

The Wilwood 600 Plus fluids are very good, often overlooked. I use it, and never have had fluid related fade in any of my cars.

Thanks. I both street the car and use a couple times per month at track. Any suggestions on how to determine when it's time to replace? Should I let the amount of track miles(or hours) determine?

I use ATE Super Blue Racing FLuid. Seems to work fine for me.

If you are not doing much track time I bet you can easily get away with a few times per year. That being said I would watch your fluid at any event and see if it is turning dark. Depending on the event and how hard you brake you could boil the fluid at anytime and then it needs to be replaced ASAP.

My rule with ATE Superblue is to Bleed 1 can in within 24hrs of EVERY track day. I got lazy once and ended up with a soft pedal and had to back off on my brakes and let them cool off. No fun. I had been to Nurburgring over the weekend and had bleed them on Friday night or Saturday morning (it was 2 years ago, sorry don't remember) brakes were rock solid all day at the ring, then Thursday night I did a couple sessions at Hockenheim, brakes started going soft about halfway throught the second session. For autoX, once or twice a year is plenty.

Replace the brake fluid right BEFORE and right AFTER a track weekend.

I use ATE too. I got used to using it in my European cars.

If you alternate between the blue and the amber (same fluid except the color) you can easily tell once your fluid is flushed.

I haven't had a problem with the ATE fluid, so I'll continue to use it.

most of our customers have had great results with the PFC "Z-rated" fluid. Dry boiling point is over 550. For the guys that are putting more heat into their brakes, we use Motul 600.

I have found that after each track day if you bleed off 3 full pumps at each bleeder screw and replenish the res with fresh brake fluid that you'll hardly ever have any fluid related brake issues.

Remember, new el-cheapo Ford fluid has a higher boiling point than old used anything. Change it frequently for best results no matter what you use.

I get board with chaning fluid so I just use Castrol SRF and bleed the caliper before each weekend.
