Heading to Laguna for World Challenge season finale
Hi guys,
I have been absent lately being very busy with LGM and even a TV show for the last 10 days.
At any rate, we are heading to Laguna Seca for the last race of the Speed World Challenge season. I am 8 points out of the championship lead in 3rd place.
The mid season adjustments that added 150 pounds, then removed it for 1 race, then added 75 pounds back for the last 2 races have taken us out of the points lead. so be it.
We are fighters and we won't let a bag of cement in the car stop us.
Just for the record, you can find the weights and restrictors on the SCCA Pro web site. Here are some of them compared to where we all started at Sebring in March.
Angelelli's Caddy will weigh 150 pounds less and run with a larger opening restrictor (+20hp) for Laguna
Vipers will weigh the same as Sebring but Archer got the pole at Atlanta even while carrying 90 pounds of rewards weight. He will carry 120 pounds for Laguna while the other Vipers carry no extra weight.
Corvettes will weigh 75 pounds MORE than we started the season.
Porsche will weigh the same as the start of the year but they got 300 more RPMs to use, which in a Porsche at 8900rpms is significant with their sequential gear box.
Aston Martin lost 100 pounds and got a much larger restrictor plate opening.
The GTO lost 150 and got a larger restrictor plate opening also.
So all in all, it will be an uphill battle. The Corvette is the only brand that received additional base weight and restrictions during the season for winning 2 races while the Porsche, Caddy and Viper won 2 and got nothing added, and in fact received positive performance adjustments.
Somehow this seems to indicate that the Corvette was superior when it was not. Yes, we qualified better than normal but that is the "Ryan Newman" factor, not the car's superiority. We can not win the next race but we can fight hard for a good qualifying spot(with points) and hope to finish 5 spots ahead of the Porsche to win the championship in spite of all this.
These are just facts, and are not meant in any way to be critical of the series. Every thing here can be found on the World Challenge web site. I love the series, and hope that with the new Speed TV contract in place, the series will move on to a new beginning and make the necessary changes to help the series prosper.
Here are the broadcast times on Speed TV for Atlanta and Laguna. Tune in because it should be some great racing.
Road Atlanta Sat, Oct 14 3:00PM
Road Atlanta Wed, Oct 18 1:00PM
Laguna Seca Sat, Oct 28 2:00PM
Laguna Seca Wed, Nov 1 1:00PM
It is always great meeting the faces that go with the Forum names, so please stop by and say hello at Laguna.
thanks

Lou,
I'll be in the Corvette Corral cheering you on. I want to thank you for all of your video work, it makes the urge for speed that much stronger when riding along with you.
