SCCA Touring Question
http://scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/Touring.pdf
Am I reading this right? The 10 year rule is based on the model year of the car, and not on the last year of the platform? ie. A '97 Corvette is ineligible to compete in Touring come 2007? Or an '02 Z06 is done in 2012 while an '04 Z06 (which is on the update/backdate line with the '02) is good until 2014?

mmm, talking to myself. I dug around on the SCCA Forums and it looks like my interpretation is correct... but it sounds like guys are writing letters trying to get it changed to 10 years after the platform...
Something to think about when you see the "cheap" FRC and early Z T1 cars for sale.

just remove the VIN plates, and tell them it is an 04' Z06. Even if you have to stamp in new cage numbers and start a fresh Log Book, they'll never know.

That is true - they have been checking.
And yes, we're trying to get it changed to the 'platform' and not just the car year. Hell, the entire driveline of my 01 is an 04 now.

There may be a loophole in the rules. T1 or T2 cars must be w/in 10 years, but the rules for Touring Corvette Challenge state that the "prepared" class is open to all C5's.
I'm interested in the practical interpretation of this rule as well. I'm not in favor of registering as a newer model, because my experience is that people start to whine when you beat them. Repeatedly. Might as well be straight up front. Then we won't be disqualified later.
