Helmet ratings?
Road America won't accept my Snell-95 helmet this year. It must be Snell-2000 or newer. I was thinking of getting something rated 2005. But, I can't find much information on what each rating means. There is SFI, SA, M2005? What are all these ratings and would anyone know witch I can use at Road America? I goto a spring and fall HPDE there each year, that is it.

M = Motorcyles ( heavier and not vented in most cases)
SA = Special Application ( nomex liner and in most cases kevlar shell ) and vented for cooling
Current rating is SA2005. Many car clubs are tracks will no longer accept a M or motorcyle rating.
Also there are a few helmet manufacture say, "Exceeds DOT or Snell ratings" If they did they would pay the SNELL testing fee and get a SNELL rating for their product. i.e. stay away from these helmets

I see more and more HPDEs that will not accept M Helmets and all are requiring 2000 and up.
Look around for a SA-2005 helmet. You will be happy in the long run..

Santa brought me a new Zamp helmet. It is a well made, light weight and comfortable helmet. It's also SA2005 rated and was a great price thru Jegs.
