Anyone have driving shoes?
I was thinking of purchasing a pair of driving shoes. Something that would connect my feet to the pedals but be normal enough that when I got out of the car it did not look like I was trying to start some new fashion trend.

Not actually a driving shoe, but when researching this myself I found a shoe that works extremely well for this purpose. It is a Timberland Power Lounger Low and runs considerably less than a $100. The shoes have a washable premium leather on the outside and something called Smartwool on the inside. Looks like a heavy tshirt like material that is very comfortable and is actually designed to be worn without socks if you wish - thus must be machine washable. The molded sole has an angle at the heel that works extremely well for driving, and does not look like a bowling shoe when you are out of the car. No, I am not selling them, but I wish I would have thought to design them. I keep my pair in the car. Check them out and see what you think. If you want to see them Google SKU #7251528. Be anxioius to hear if anyone else has found them as a driving shoe and what they think.

Because pedals are close together, I went looking for something that was "thin". And I couldn't afford Pilotis, nice as they are.
I found a black, narrow, very lightweight, Converse, with mesh sides (good for hot summer driving), lace up, shoe. Must be a track shoe because it's very thin soled. The narrow and light means I don't grab two pedals and have good feel of the pedals and where they are.
Inexpensive, too, at about $40 or so.

I use the Piloti G16... one of the less expensive shoes Piloti carries. They're listed for $80.00 at the Piloti site. These shoes look like typical sneakers. They are great for driving, and ok for walking... but I would not want to walk TOO far in them. The bottoms are a bit stiff, not much cushion... ok for walking around at car shows etc, but probably not ok for 10 mile hikes in the backwoods. The bottoms are pretty flat but pretty grippy too... mate nice with the C6 pedals. After trying a lot of different types of sneakers etc for driving the C6, I have dubbed my Piloti G16s my official C6 shoes. I wear them almost always when driving the C6.
Also, you'll be surprised how easy it is to work the C6 clutch when you wear the same shoes to drive all the time. Shoe thickness effects the relative clutch engagement point (at least as your foot learns it), and changing shoes often effectively "confuses" your foot. Get a good shoe and stick with it and you'll be making near seamless shifts in no time.

I have some pumas...they are great; people always ask why I wear different shoes to work and when I get to my office change them...The pumas give the best conveyance of the throttle and clutch pedal, although the clutch is far too soft for me...but that's for another thread.
