Default Simple ALMS question - Couldn't Find the Answer

Well, I looked around but couldn't get the answer so it's time to ask...

What are the three door lights for on ALMS cars?

Shows the car's place in the race for that particular class.

Real helpful after they start pitting.

Each light corresponds to what position that you're in. I think that one light means first place, two lights mean second, three lights mean third and no lights is out of a podium position.

One of the best fan-friendly innovations in endurance racing, IMO.

If a man speaks in the forest, and there is no woman there to hear him,
is he still WRONG?

Cheers from Arizona.

To me, the lights are another Panoz family gadget to cost competitors even more money. Both at the races, and on TV, I find the score board/tower/video streamer much easier to read than the dots.

some races like Lime Rock you can't hear or see anything when spectating. With all the expense I doubt it is much concern and other cars can see the lights at night races and move over.

I guess it is handy for GT2. I only really watch GT1 and LMP1, and there are never enough cars to get confused.

At ALMS MidOhio we sat in the"S's" most of the day, the lights were all that made us sure wear the C6R Vettes were relative to the field. TV would be different.

I think that it's definitely for the fans at the track as opposed to fans watching on tv. How else are you going to know their positions unless you're listening to or watching a broadcast?

Without the position indicators, it could be difficult to determine whether the 3 was 1 or 2 or if it was 4 who was ahead of 3.
