Default Trailer - How to get lowered vette on!

How are you guys getting your lowered Vettes onto your trailers? Are you making longer ramps or what? Any pictures?

Thanks,

Great picture and you have the correct angle to get your car in your trailer. I have an open trailer and it even have a dovetail but the ramps are only 5 foot.

You must have at least 10 or 12 feet. That would solve my problem if I could find a way to add ramps to the trailers ramps? I currently use 2x10's but they tend to move so are sort of dangerous.

Yup, 6-4 door and 5 foot ramps. Plus I jack up the tounge as fars I can go. Still only clear the ramp door joint by 1/4" with the front splitter.

This is probably not in the least bit helpful to you right now since you already have a trailer. But I got tired of screwing around with ramps and got a roll back trailer. Z06 loads up just fine with only the rubber spoiler bending a little as I approach the trailer.

So, if you are at all in the position of looking at getting another trailer you should check them out.

Someone else had a link to a company that made aluminum ramp extensions. Maybe they will post here.

Good luck,

Thanks,
My vette isn't lowered that much but was still bottoming out trying to load it on my 20-ft open trailer with dovetail and 5-foot ramps. Figured out it was the "angle of the dangle". With my trailer hitch firmly in locked position to my Durango, I'd back the rear wheels of the tow vehicle up onto some heavy duty Rhino Ramps (found at Autozone or NorthernTools). This effectively raises the tongue up high enough to give me a better loading angle.

Hope that helps.

Those were cool till I got to the price $250.00 plus shipping.
I use a couple of 2x10 about 4' long at the end of my ramps.

You can do the same thing by getting a welder to make a similar pair of ramps for you out of some angle iron. Probably can get it done for less than $250. Use your current ramps as the bridge to the new ramps. Just make sure the trailer can't tilt backwards before you drive onto the bridge ramps. While you are at it have the welder add a couple of brackets to store the new ramps under the back end of the trailer.

yea but aluminum is very light that's why I dumped my wood and steel is heavy!

Default Getting Vette onto Trailer - Pictures

Everyone, thanks for all the input. I currently use a 2x4 to get my car on the trailer ramps but with recent suspension work the car needs to get higher to get onto the ramps. After reviewing everyone’s input I was in Sam’s Club yesterday and saw these ramps that I hope will fix the problem. If this get’s the car up high enough the next issue will be to try to tie them into the trailers ramps so I will have a smooth transition unto the trailer. By the way these ramps are $55 + tax at Sam’s club so it is probably the same cost as making wood ramps and easier to carry around/store.A picture is worth a thousand words so I have included pictures of what I bought and the two ways I can possibly use these ramps to help get onto a trailer.

1st way to try to use ramps
Box

Ramp laid flat out

Flat ramp under car

2nd way to try to use ramps

Ramp double up partially under car

Ramp double up under car – Notice air dam

Ramp double up all the way under car – Air dam bends back

Side view of ramps

The goal is to get the car onto the trailer ramps and trailer without damaging the 1. Paint 2. Air dam

Next I will pull the trailer out and experiment with moving the car onto the trailer. Unfortunately this will have to wait a week or so because as nice as it is today (75 degrees) Tuesday, the temperature will drop to around 35 tomorrow and snow Wednesday night into Thursday and it is suppose to stay cold through the weekend.
Perils of living up north.

Appreciate all your thoughts and inputs on how to help make this work.
