Melting Slicks
When I needed tires I couldn't even get the BFG R1. Then when they were available they didn't offer the size I wanted. There are no 315/35-17 or 315/30-18 available... So I got Hoosier R6s and Rolex tires. I like the R6. They stick. Not sure how long they will last.

This probably doesn't matter, because of the available sizes, but this was posted to YouTube a few days ago.

I've been on the hunt for info about the R1 and this is the best I've found so far.

Ooops. Sorry. That link was to an autocross run using BFG R1s.
Here's the link I meant to send.

Local guy using them on a Cayman for autox. He is definitely slower than I expected knowing his driving ability. However he has not run the v710 on that car for comparison. He has to run higher pressures than the v710/A6's as well.

I just ran my first event with the BFG g-force R1's on a Honda S2000. We got them because they were quick and easy to get (Tirerack) and required no shaving. One of the tires they sent had a huge crack along the sidewall so we had to send it back. The replacement tire also had a crack, but it was smaller so we ran it anyway. That same tire just happened to be the one that blew when I hit a hole in a berm.... but... the tire also tore so I can't say without question that it was defective or due to the crack. I most likely just gave it more than any tire could handle. However, I do think BFG might have some manufacturing kinks to work out since we saw cracks in 2 out of the 5 tires we got.
"THAT SAID".... the grip is incredible, and even above my own skill level for the most part. I would not recommend these tires to a novice or even an intermediate. The grip level of the R1s would be a waste. Most of my experience is on street tires, and I have a little experience on Toyo RA-1's (love them) and even less experience with Hoosiers. These tires felt similar to the Hoosiers. The sidewall is superstiff and the grip is... as I said... very, very good. I can say they probably have more grip than RA-1s but I was on a new track so I don't have lap times to compare, and at my skill level, I am not driving 10/10ths in every corner. Let's just say these tires can handle a lot more throttle thru the corners than I am used to giving it, before they get to their limit.
Like in the video, once I got them to even temps across the tire, they wore very evenly and... they didn't wear as quickly as RA-1s... so while they are a little more expensive than RA-1s, I would expect to get at least another day or two out of them vs the RA-1s.
Like RA-1s, they slide very predictably, although with less squeal. More like a Hoosier.
Would I buy them again? Probably. I just feel that at my driving level, the outstanding grip is a little bit of a waste... as I tend to still drive a sticky tire like a street tire sometimes... but I'll get there!

You have got to be kinda crazy (nothing personal), to drive a "race tire" to the track.....
Hello rain.....debris.....rocks.....nails..... .screws....and Heat cycling your tires........
A6 Hoosier blinding fast......V710 almost as fast......BFG---my vote is slower

Le Mans Master
The new issue of Grassroots Motorsports has a comparison article with the R6, NT01, Hankook Z214 and the new R1. The test car was a 2007 WRX wagon on 225/45-17s for each tire. The R1 had the best 10 lap average. They said that they had very little dropoff in times as they warmed up.

I thought that GRM test was one giant ad.
They didn't compare the Hoosier A6----or the Kumho V710, yes the V710 doesn't come in that size BUT---
Those 2 tires would have whipped everything else easily in an objective test IMO.
Which tire in the test ran first ?
The only reason Hoosier isn't too pissed off is because they are selling their A6's like iphones to the 10th power (not really sure).
Big time racer----Hoosier A6----or maybe V710-----
The others I don't think so. The others aren't really that bad for a HPDE---pretty good probably.
For top time------no way
