Question: LG Wilwood Front Brake Calipers
Another question in my quest to turn my 99 FRC into a solid HPDE car.
Have read a number of posts about the LG Wilwood front brake calipers.
For people who have them how do you like them and have you had any problems with them?
Are you running the stock rotors? If so, how long do they generally last before you have to replace? For people running other than stock rotors would be interested in this info also.
How hard to change the rotors and how much time?
Thanks

Wilwood's
I have LG Wilwood front brake setup and love it.
Works great for street and track days. Big difference over stock front calipers.
Use H pads for track and Q pads for street. Easy to swap pads and rotors (2 bolts). Only use stock rotors from Rock Auto ($22 each). Last about 6-10 track days with street time in between.

They are great and the Wilwood H or J compoud is tops. The mod pays for itself in pad savings. I have them front and rear.
You can get mice heat shiels, aluminum or SS spacers to keep the pistons in the bore and cooler. Pads are .80" so when you wear tyhem thin the spacers are great. DRM ducts and LGM spindle ducts with SRF are tops.

Where did you get the spacers? My local track supplier says the rest of his customers (circle track) just take worn out pads, chisel off the remaining friction material and use the backing plates as spacers.

Great information. Keep it coming!!!
I have 17" wheels all the way around (bought the GS rims I mentioned in an old post along with some Kumho tires).
John - would also like to know where to get the spacers/heat shields.
For people using the H pads, are you using them both front and rear?
What would people recommend for brake ducts and spindles. I have seen people going with ECS, LG, and DRM? How hard to install and any tips? Seems like all of them require some mods to fit properly.
Thanks.

I bought these from LG and it was one of the best, if not the best mods I have done. After a season, I still had plenty of material left on the pads. If you use 17" rims this is the WAY to go, but they don't fit under GS front rims, I found this out the hard way. They do fit under stock Z06 rims.

Wilwoods
I use DRM brake ducts. That is why the life of rotors and pads is better than normal.
I am impressed with life of pads/rotors along with stopping ability of the H pad wilwood combination. I understand that Wilwood has just come out with a new pad that is supposed to be better than the "H" pad.
Smooth in fast off.

For those who are interested, http://www.lmperformance.com offers the "wide" SL6 Wilwood calipers with Stoptech rotors.

I have a C5 brake upgrade on my C4 with 17x9.5 GS wheels. I am not at all happy with the C5 brakes. I might do something else this winter.

Most un graded washer are made from scrap metal so they vary in thickness so eye ball them when you buy some and try to get the same ones. DRM has some spacers 1/4" 3/8" 1/2" and possibly bigger. I have 3/4" and .850" in front depending on the rim I am running and 1/4' in the rear.

Bill has the answer by now I guess PM him for spacers.
DRM brake ducts and LGM spindle ducts. You need to pull the front hubs which is no big deal to put the LGM spindle ducts on. You may want to put some better studs in while you are in their, DRM has them.
Use H front and rear.

mica shim http://shielsmasonry.com/micawilwood.jpg
you can see where you need to grind them at the bridge bolt. even a round file works. The spacers are the same file grind, cut off wheel or machine it if you have access to that.
The mica last a long time and is cheap. Just wear down the pads slightly and they slip in. As pads wear more then add spacers which are 1/8" or 1/4" in aluminum or SS
