Default Racing Brake Pads ?

I put some Racing Brake Pads E700 on my stock C6Z06 and a couple of the pads were a tight fit. The Racing Brake pads or about a mm or so thicker than stock and couple were very tight to get in. Anyone else experience this? Once in all seems to work O.K. but why so tight? Pistons were pushed all the way in.

That is normal when new. Most Higher quality pads are slightly thicker then stock pads, so the tight fit. Dont worry about it, those pads will be ground down soon enough.

they advertise they are thicker don't think many have been happy with there products. I have never seen Wilwoods or PFC be thicker than OEM. Like Tom said they will be gone in short order.

I use Wilwood A pads in my car and I've never had that problem. Don't worry in a few miles your rotors will get thinner and everything will fit just fine.

The Willwood A pads actually outlast my rotors. But damn they stop the car.

I hope you're not using these pads on a street car.

Yes, I am, but these pads are not the real aggresive Racing Pads. I chose the (M1) E700 pads, supposedly O.K. for street. Middle of the road. They have less aggressive and more aggressive as chart below shows.
Recommended Application:
Setup # Application Compound Recommended For Speed (MPH) Top Temp.* Min. Temp.
S1 Street Performance ET300 Street Not Rated Ambient
S2 Autocrossing / Spirited Driving ET500 Aggressive Street 80 1000°F (538°C) Ambient
M1 HPDE / Entry Racing ET700 Street / Light Track 100 1200°F (648°C) Ambient
M2 Road Racing (Entry - Intermediate) ET800 Street / Mild Track 120 1400°F (760°C) Ambient
M3 Road / Track Racing (Advanced) ET900 Heavy Track 140 1600°F (871°C) 300°F (148°C)

Last year RB was saying the ET700 were full track pads until people started using them and finding out they were junk.

I tested a set of ET900's (which they developed after they email recalled ET700s) The ET900 pads did last much longer than the 700s.

IMHO I would not even run the ET700 on the street.
RB actually stands for REALLY BAD, not racing brakes.

O.K. Just trying to find out all I can about Racing Brake Pads. Pro and Con comments wanted. Thanks for the input.

All comments welcome. I'm new to Racing Brake and want to know all I can about them. Tell me the good and the bad.

any one have a picture of the backing plate? The numbers on the back of the plate should indicate who the pads were made by.

Not the best pics but here goes a couple. The part that can't be read is: PD1185R-37
I was able to pull a rear pad without pulling the wheel off.

There 2pc rotors are good. There pads will destroy your rotors at the track. Get ready to have chunks of metal gouged out of your rotors, and warping.

Should of went with Hawk DTC70
Good luck. Let me know how your rotors are after the HPDE!

You guys are scareing me now. Do you really think the ET700 are aggressive enough to damage my stock rotors? I mean what would the more aggressive ET800 and ET900's do?

After the ET700 recall shouldn't the ET700 pads ordered now be better?

They were a shear disaster to use at Road America. Of my experiences with the C6 Z06 brake set up. I ran four different sets to compare which is the best for my use. The Cobalt Friction one piece pads held up the best overall. With the Cobalt padlettes coming in second. The two mm thicker CarboTech XP-10s padlettes were much superior to the RB 900s but placed third.

How did the pads cause this? Did they build too much heat? How long in time is 12 laps @ RA? Please inform me with more details. Thanks

They wore down to the backs in less than 4 laps at RA on my car. Road America is the only high speed technical road course on this continent. The speeds that one achieves there dwarf VIR and Watkins Glen. Until you driven Road America, you will not understand why Gary2K5c or myself do not like the RB brake pads.
