Looking for one more shot at Summit. Do you like these guys--do they run a safe event (people point by, people don't pass w/o point, black flags for drivers breaking rules, etc)?

Yes. TrackDaze (previously - VW R32 Club) run a very professional and safe HPDE. Corner workers were alert and good use of flags (Yellow, Black and Red) to ensure safety when an incident occurred. Drivers in my group (Advanced) had good situational awareness and gave/took point-bys in a safe manner. You could pass anywhere on the track, while Intermediate and below had specific passing zones. You'll enjoy running with these guys!

Will you be at HyperFest this weekend. A slot opened up last night for me. Hopefully they patch turns 1,5, and 6 before this weekend. On Sunday those turns were in bad shape.

I will not be there this weekend. My car still needs some parts and a better mechanic

Rob,

How bad was the track this past weekend? Was the asphalt coming up, pot holes, etc., in 1,5 & 6?

Not good. Turns 1, 5, and 6 are really rough, and there were asphalt marbles everywhere by mid-afternoon. In turn 1 you can straddle the rough patch, at least.

They're going to have to do something about it soon.

Not pot holes...more like the rumble strips on the side of the highway. The rumble strips dictated your line. The best way around was to stradle them. Like Jim said, Lots of marbles from the asphalt. I spoke with the NASA folks and they said they will see what the can do for this weekend.

I was amazed at how bad the track surface has become in Turn 1, 5 and 6. Rob described it best - more like deep rumble strips with marbles and small pieces of asphalt. Best to straddle the strips a little off-line. Almost as bad as before the resurfacing - needs attention soon.

Default Track Surface @ Summit Main

Actually, the surface got so bad Sunday afternoon, that before the Thunder Group went out to race, there was a 30 minute delay while the track was swept to get all the loose asphalt, stones, etc., off of the track surface. Within an hour, there were so many small stones from the asphalt coming up in turns, 1, 5, 6 and 10 again, that several people came in with chipped and cracked windshields.

They either need to repair the track or make it a 4 wheel drive race track. You can't pave with asphalt over concrete patches and expect it to stick!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This doesn't bode well for the July 14-15 event. Was anybody at the FATT on Friday?

Here's a 6.5 minute video I took while participating in the NASA Hyperfest last weekend in my commuter car (stock '93 Celica) since my vette was in the shop receiving suspension upgrades for NCM VIR next week. Mike

Mike,

Is all the rattling in the Camera caused by gravel that you are hitting? It must be pretty bad if so. You even set off what sounded like your own little "cat" alarm once on T1--I guess it sounded more like a ferret.
Was that enough to give the car an unsettled feel? I noticed you didn't seem to completely avoid the area maybe just strattle the worst of it.

Was T1 worse than the others? Sounded so. I was there in late May there was no deterioration like that present in the surface. I have pics of T10.
