Top Gear USA
I dont know if this is a repost but:

I don't know about you guys, but of those three, I only like Adam Carolla. Tanner I only know from that Supercars Exposed show and it was terrible (both content and host).

I'd like to be wrong, but I think *any* TG clone (US, Australia, etc.) is going to have a really tall hill to climb. TG has three things that stand out to me:
The chemistry is what gives the show staying power, and that's the problem any show is going to have to solve.
I'm willing to give it a shot, but I don't have great expectations.
Have a good one,
Mike
- Cool cars
- Imaginative sequences (Stig, Star In a Reasonably Priced Car, etc.)
- Great cinenatography
- Chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond, and May

Weak.
Just like most, I'll give it a chance, but I'm pretty sure the candor of the original is what sets it apart. I expect too much pandering to the advertisers.
I actually find that I fast forward through the car reviews (except for the part where the Stig sets a fast lap) and just watch the goofy side skits which have little to do with real cars. The automotive journalism aspect of the show is just a medium to get to the other segments.

I suppose if the NASCARize it (dumb in down) it would succeed.
Top Gear is one of two shows I look forward to watching outside of car racing, shows just how little TV I can stand to watch, too busy living my own life the rest of the time.

I pretty much agree with what has been said. I think the show will bomb pretty bad. They only have one genuine car guy so there is no depth for analysis (or jokes for that matter). Adam Carolla is funny approximately 1% of the time so he doesn't bring anything to the show. Eric Stromer is just plain annoying so they are at 2 strikes on personalities before we even get to see the show or the other guy. I'll see if I can handle watching a complete episode. At the moment my confidence is extremely low.

It is not produced by the same people, it will not have the same budget as the BBC version, and most importantly, it will not have Jeremy Clarkson, who MAKES Top Gear what it is. What Top Gear is today is a rare beast. It's clever, it's intelligent, it's beautifully written and produced. Do shows like that even survive in America anyway??
I never miss Top Gear on BBC America Monday nights. I don't know who they're targeting with the US Version, but it sounds challenging, given the "talent" they have selected....

the old saying is that "imitation is the sincerest form of flatery" However, you can't go back, once there is an original, there is not more except what ever follows is second no matter what.

What do they say on the commercials for Top Gear "think Monsters Garage with Lost's budget" the version we are going to get is not going to have near the budget the BBC version gets. I hope it catches on in the states but like anything else this board likes (ALMS, F1, Speed GT etc.) the rest of the US couldn't car less about.
For the first episode I think they should take a C6Z or better yet the new ZR1 and race it against a Aston Martin and just spank the $hit out of the Aston. Since the BBC Top Gear just hates everything American we will have a chance to throw a little there way. I will still always look forward to the BBC Top Gear that trio just has chemistry and it works.

Oh man, I don't want to pile on the hate, but they finally do a US version of Top Gear and they deliver us a giant case of SUCK
I'll have to pretend this doesn't exist...seems to work for all my other problems
Time to go back to my regularly scheduled BBC 2 show

How many times will they be able to do road test of a F150? Just because those of us on this forum have an appreciation for sports cars doesn't mean those in america who watch tv do.
Actually, since everyone in the US overreacts to simple things, the first episode will likely be a road test of Prius followed by in depth conversation of how many grocery bags will a tahoe hybrid hold.

[gag] [choke] [puke]. Being a regular viewer of the BBCA Top Gear, there's NO WAY this US version will be able to hold a candle to the original. The chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond, and May is very special and unique, and the producing of the show won't be the same either. Does this look like it's gonna be a good show???

Tanner Foust at least knows how to drive. He has raced in the Rally America Series.
