Default VIR Directions from NJ - Opinions

anyway we slice it we are looking at roughly 8.0 hours from ECS to VIR.

Although I have nav systems (GM and Nuvi) I decided to look at mapquest and googlemaps to see an overview of the directions.

I thought that since it was a far distance that both googlemaps and mapquest would give me the same directions, but I was wrong.

One states I should take I95 basically all the way to Richmond (using 495 to avoid DC) and then take 360 over to VIR.

The other one states that I should take I95 to 495 again avoiding DC but this time instead of getting back on 95 to Richmond I should take RT 66 to US 29 and stay on that road all the way to VIR.

Any opinions on either route? I dislike 95, but at the same time realize that with trailer I can do 70-75 usually. I am not sure if oyu can do that on US 29.

Thanks

Bob

95 south to 85 to exit 12 at South Hill VA

then 58 west to Danville

The Sleep Inn is on 58 the east side of Danville. There is an AutoZone and Micky Ds in front of the Sleep Inn

Big parking lot in front of Sir Richards Rester aunt next to the Sleep Inn for trailers

Remember Virgina does not allow Radar Detectors.

Some ppl from Baltimore and western DC area take 29 down to Danville as an option

Tom and Wally are right. I have made the trip many times and used every route imaginalble. 58 is an unlimited access 4 lane road. It rolls a little bit but if you have a decent tow vehicle, you will be fine.

I think 29 is the shortest distance route from here but it is not very well lit as you get rural near VIR. Not the place to be at night.

Hi Bob,

I'm taking 78 to 81 (since you are further south you could probably take 76 to 81). It's a little longer; but I think it's a little faster, specially pulling a trailer, because you really bypass all the traffic. Besides, the scenery is beautiful.

Jose.

I was thinking of US29 just because it is nicer scenery. I will look into your route. It looks like we have 8 in our caravan now.

Default Another Route To VIR

I-95 South to North Richmond. Exit onto I-295 towards Charlottesville, VA. Exit I-295 to I-64 West towards Charlottesville. Exit I-64 onto Route 288. Exit Route 288 onto Route 360 West. Exit Route 360 West onto Route 58 West in South Boston. Then into Danville.

From the intersection of I-95 and I-295 to VIR is a 2.5 hour drive. 4 lanes all the way.

Theyre probably going to take it easy this event, only a couple bottles of whiskey.

Jody, I am going to be up there with them...what do you think? Of course we will have beer. Jack will have the cheap stuff that your body can handle and I will have the good stuff for the rest of us.

Bob, Jack is right about the route. do NOT take the I66 us 29 route!!! As for the 495 thing, I95 & 495 are the same road around the east side of DC. Its the Capitol beltway. I would go 95,295w, 64w, 288s, 360w, 58w...besides that way you might run into a bunch of us on the way down.

thanks - I think we were trying to avoid lower DC area, but hopefully it will not be crowded.

BTW - anyone using google maps you can now drag and drop the route to different highways and it will update time and distance. Pretty cool

We like the rt 29 way as its not that far from our garage but if you need diesel I would recommend 95 to 85 to 58 and the town you are heading for is Alton and the highway is state rt 62 toward Milton, NC and its on the left at a traffic light miles before you get to Danville.

Remember

Registration and tech is at the Sleep Inn in Danville, not at the track.

Big parking Lot for trailered cars.

We really dont have time Monday morning for tech.

Instructors self tech, but we would still like all instructors to come to the Registration and General Greeting Meeting at 5:00 by the Sleep Inn Pool

Thanks Everyone
