Anyone running 15w-50?
I have been running 10w-30 in my track car but have seen oil temps hitting 280 in the heat of the summer. The car has a Dewitts Radiator with integrated oil cooler. I was thinking of switching to 10w-40 or 15w-50 for track use. I realize it wont help reduce my temps but the thinning out wont be as severe on the heavier oils. Is 15w-50 too heavy for a stock LS6 motor? Thoughts?

I run 0-30w at the track. It helps keep my temps down. Both of the oil companies that I've worked with over the past few years are believers in thin oils. They keep reminding me that "Richard - it's not 1966."

After talking to subdriver, I went with their Premium 20-50. He says it has more detergents as my car is also a daily driver. Also, they are having an awesome sale on Amsoil right now.

And modern syn oils can take around 400-500 degrees before breakdown iirc.

The Redline website said 15w50 wasn't recommended for engines that saw any significant time below 200F oil temps and if that was the case using 10w30 or 10w40 would be better. Since I was buying all the fluids to swap in a DRM Ron Davis radiator/EOC/TOC combo and I don't know where the oil temps will be for the daily drive aspect the 15w50 seemed too much for me.

I just ended up grabbing 10w30 Redline just now; I was aiming for 10w40 but they didn't have enough in stock. And they didn't have the 15w50, either. Jumped straight to 20w50.
