Default Vision of a Race Car Driver

"Training for Speed

Tony Stewart, a two-time Nascar series champ, is considered one of the finest racers of his generation. Many things go into Stewart’s racing mastery, not the least of which is his vision. But it takes more than his great eyesight (20/13 in one eye and 20/15 in the other); it also takes his ability to quickly process what he sees around him. Traveling at 200 miles an hour, Stewart must make quick eye movements (called saccadic vision) and accurately assess what he sees and react accordingly. Here you can test your saccadic visual skills."

Well, I failed that test badly -- guess that the scotch I just finished might have some bearing on performance. Tried both one hand and 2 handed key entry was not able to note any difference in either method. Be truthful - how did you do ???

I got 20% on .15s and .1 s on the 2nd time, after you kinda see what you are up against.

I can see where the .15s and .1s pop up well enough, but it's hard to "see" the pattern.

I liken it to "I can see the car spinning up ahead, but no I can't make out the sponsor decals on the door"

btw last vision check I had was better than 20/10 (I read the 10 line @ 26 ft). that was 7 yrs ago, my reaction time has probably slowed

LOl, I got 80-60-40-0-0

I remember some of the patterns but I type the keys wrong, maybe being dyslectic affects my results

If this was real world cause/effect, I hit the Starter on pit out, banged the Armco, crossed the blend line, made contact with an oncoming car which flipped me upside down and I'm spinning like an inverted turtle.

I think I'm going to drive on my kids' X-Box from now on.

I would still be shifting gears and braking like I was racing.

Only reason I got 20% on the .1 was I happened to be looking right where it popped up. So the good news is if I happen to T-bone the spinning car in front of me I'll get to see his/her decal!

I think I hit a submarine... wow that was bad. I too blame it on the scotch, although I haven't poured it yet.

On the last two sections, if I happened to be looking where they appeared, I remembered them with no problem.

Your eyes have muscles and can be trained like any other muscle, both in speed in movement, and the ability to focus.

Now go hit the gym fellas.
