08 engine is great, however w/ the new emissions stuff (specifically the DPF) it is a HOG on fuel. Expect a max of 14 highway.

DPF is a filter in the exhaust that pulls particulates out of the gas. Then when it gets sooty, raw fuel is dumped into the exhaust and lit to clear out the filter. Thus the terrible mileage.

Not to mention it only has a 5spd trans which doesnt help either. The GMs all have 6 speeds.

Doesnt sound like a "steal" of a price though. You can get a new 2009 one for close to $40k after all rebates and deals.

Hi Tom,

I had a 2008 F-250 King Ranch, loaded. Traded it in last March, after one year and 11,000 miles, for $35,000 on a 40' RV. I know the RV dealer sold it for $38,000 to someone else. So, you may not be getting the greatest deal. I have to report that the truck was great and pulled my enclosed trailer without drama. Mileage was not the greatest; but not significantly different than a GM 3500 that a friend lent me to drive to VIR the year before. I traded to the RV because I wanted the comfort of my own place at the track.

Jose.

GM will not be building diesels until feb.
We have 6 Ford stores, and there are 2 problems with the 6.4
poor fuel economy
Radiator recall for breaking tanks
we have several with over 100k no problem

Hello Tom

excellent ride quality
will tow anything
outstanding brakes

Yeah, GM shut down the diesel plant until feb. Now used/leftover duramax prices are through the roof.

I think the new gen of diesels the 6.7 from ford, and whatever GM is whipping up will be quite pricey compared to what we have now.

I have a '07 Duramax (Crew Cab) and it is quite a vehicle. It is my daily driver.

It is so nice my partners, who are like the princess in the fairy tale who can feel a pea under the mattress, ride in it and don't bitch.

went by that ford deal last night and it was SOLD.

Larry that is what I thought I head something about the mechanical

I would rather have a durmax, but seeing something 2 years old, and $20K less then MSRP, was worth looking at and asking a few questions.

But thanks guys

I have an 06 2500 CC Duramax. If I was looking right now I would search around for an early 07 (new body style) with the LBZ engine which does not have the DPF. I DD mine and with about 60/40 hwy to city driving I get at least 18mpg every tank hand calc'd. Towing my open steel trailer and vette with the normal gear I get 14-16 at 65-70. Barely know it is back there. Some people care, some don't, but the Duramax is about 3x more quiet than a Dodge or Ford as well.

BTW I bought my 06 CC fully loaded minus Nav about 15 months ago brand new for less than that. Comb the lots there are lots of "paid for" trucks sitting there.

As far as GMC goes, the early '07 models were all the "classic" (old body style) with the LBZ motor. They shifted to the new body and new LMM motor with the 07-1/2 model.

No matter what I do I can't get my LBZ above 16 - 16-1/2 mpg. Almost all of my driving is in town, though, rarely ever on the interstate except when I'm towing.

I think the key to in town gas mileage is keeping the tranny shifting under 2k rpms. Whenever I drive it shifting above that I get between 16.5 and 17mpg.

I thought they made some of the early 07's in the new body style with the left over LBZ's, but I guess I am wrong.

I would certainly go with the classic over the new DPF motor though if mpg matters to you at all. Check out dieselplace.com for more info.

My 08 250 gets around 17 mpg at 70 (not towing). Anything over 70 and mpg goes down the drain. I do mostly highway driving to and from work so it's not too bad. Stop and go city traffic is hard on the mpg.

As mentioned above the stupid fuel burn-off (government mandated for emissions) is terrible. I buy all the trucks for my company and our national Ford rep says if I had the same truck but an 07 I would get about 5 mpg better.

The radiator tank did leak twice but both times it was covered under warranty. The local service guy, that I know pretty well, said they got a bad batch during assembly. Then the repalcements that were sent out were from the same batch. Isn't that brilliant?

It pulls my enclosed trailer like there's nothing back there, so it's got plenty of power. It's easy to drive and very comfortable on long runs. I go 7 or 8 hours to events pretty regularly and when we get there I don't feel wiped out like I used to.

Wow, that is a huge difference, I wonder what is better for the environment; more emissions, or less emissions but burning 30 % more fuel

yeah, and he didn't tell me until after I had bought the 08 in September of 07.

I have an 08 F250 4x4 diesel and love it. It is much quieter than the 07 and earlier. I was getting 14 highway unloaded and 7 pulling the trailer. I installed a Dr Performance module (plugs into wiring harness instead of flashing the computer) and now get 18 - 20 mpg highway and 10-11 mpg pulling the trailer at 70-75 mph.

Twin turbo 6.4L engine works great.

I like the Dr Performance module because I can unplug it whenever I take it in for service and you can't tell.

They claim it gives you add'l 80hp and 160 ft/lb torque. I know there is a real seat of the pants difference with and without it. And the mpg doesn't lie. I've run it for over a year and the mileage varies very little. I avg 18 if driving 75 - 80 mph. If I hold it to 70 I can get 19 or 20 mpg.

I agree that the new emissions have hurt mpg. There is a particulate filter in the exhaust that is supposed to trap soot. After a while the computer increases exhaust temp to burn off the soot. mpg goes to pot. I think it is running very rich. If you turn off the engine during or shortly after the "exhaust filter cleaning", the exhaust is way hot and you can hear it popping. They warn you about driving or stopping near flammable materials when it is doing this as you can start a fire. Thanks greenies!
