Default Head & Neck Restraints

Looking ahead to running some w2w with NASA this coming year and thinking about head & neck restraints... I know HANS is the defacto, and I just noticed ECS list a new one, and I see NASA just says "SFI 38.1" so:

Specification 38.1 - Head and Neck Restraint Systems

defNder Team Issue Device
HANS Performance Products - HANS Device (All Series)
Leatt Brace Moto-R Device
Safety Solutions R3 Device
Safety Solutions R3 Rage Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid Pro Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid/Hybrid Rage Device
Safety Solutions Hybrid X Device

So... who's using what? What's comfy?

Hans with sliding teather. Easy to use and the sliding teather makes it easy to turn your head.

I use a defNder and it is very comfortable. It also uses the Hans post locations that a lot of helmets already have reinforced which is nice.

...great customer service as well.

Whatever you do, just get something. I have a hans with sliding tether and I'm sure it saved me from significant injury (or at least a very sore neck and back) when I hit a tire wall a year ago. Walked away with pretty much no issues after smacking a wall very hard. I like mine but just get something if you're going to be going fast on track.

Have you ever had both in your hands at one time and examined the two closely John?

I have, since I own both, and my Hans is going up for sale..

I'm using the Hans with the sliding tether. I decided that being able to turn your head more was more important than the quick releases. On the one hand, you always use the sliding tether, but if you ever really needed the quick disconnects they might be handy. Whatever you get, try and borrow one to see how it fits you and even get in and out of the car with it.

Once I'm in the car and belted in, the only time I notice the Hans is in the paddock. Even with the sliding tethers I sometimes need help spotting other cars as I back out of my parking spot.

I just bought a Hans. I have spent 2500 dollar at the chiro getting my head to turn to the left, not fun. I walked into his office he looked at me and said "car crash".

So If I buy a helmet that has the HANS post already the Defnder will work?
