powdercoating ccw corsairs i plan to hpde with?
good or bad idea? got a 2nd set of ccw wheels and they have some spots on them in the paint and figured would look better if they were powdercoated a competition gray color., is that a good or bad idea?
also there is an anodizer in the area i was thinking about giving a call otherwise but i think powercoating might be the easier way to go?
thanks

from talking with John @ CCW it seems powder coating is more durable then anodizing. from what he said, with anodizing, you have to be VERY careful how you clean the wheels. if you use the wrong kind of chemcials it will ruin the finish. the analogy he gave me was that if you can safely gargle with it, you can clean your wheels with it.

Derek, if these are going to be track wheels? I wouldn't waste the money. I have 2 sets of CCW's and they both got dinged up as track wheels. Hard to keep track wheels looking like new. Just my .02 JD

If you have them now, just drive the chit out of them.
when your done, take them off your car, hose them down, squirt them with Aurmor All Aluminum wheel cleaner, wipe them off with wet rag, then hose them off again.
let them dry - Dont get all Wax on Wax off on us.

I have my centers on my CCW classics powder coated. Problem was the XR2 pads made a **** load of dust on the wheels after Summit Weekend, and didnt get to wash the cash down ASAP before it rained on the car day after the event. The brake dust ATE right threw my powder coating on the centers. Think about your choice of brake pads if you powder coat, the XR2 and the Hawk Blue both seem to be corrosive quick when the dust is wet. Did not have that problem with the XP8/XP10, and Im just trying the PFC01 now so the jury is still out.

A few friends of mine suggested I just tape off the tires and rattle can them black.

I had the centers of my CCW Classics powder coated and I run XP10s and XP8s without any problems. It sure makes cleaning them after a track day a breeze.

I sent a set back to John at CCW to have powdercoated competition grey and they came out great. Like getting a brand new set of wheels back. Shipping wasn't a big issue since I'm pretty close though. I'd give them a call and see what they would do for you.

Can you see the rust spots at 160mph? LOL! Mine got black spots from pieces of Hot Racing Brake pads on them. Track wheels get lots of heat and brake dust that is very unforgiving to most finishes. Wait till you are going to sell them to get them looking good. JD
