Default Rolled Vette at VIR this weekend?

I heard that a vette rolled at VIR this weekend with the SVT Cobra Mustang Club event. Does anyone know what happened and what turn it was in? I've heard that rolling at VIR was not common. I hope the driver and instructor were OK.

I was just there Thursday. Ford had their Power Tour trailer there with about 6 Mustang GTs and one Ford GT. They had been there from the day before doing some kind of lightening lap for Car and Driver? A couple of the Petty Blue ones came out on track during the open session but I was never around them to see how they were doing. There were a lot of mustangs rolling in as we were leaving. Hope the 'vette guy is OK!

The Vette driver is fine and the car is fixable. He was running solo in intermediate, lost it coming out of 10, went off track left and rolled it when he hit the tire wall. We know that story.

Talked to the driver an a few instructors that were at the event. He is fine.

T10 accident. ( blind left handed off camber slight down hill turn )
Sounds like right side tires went off the asphalt, and he jerked left to attempt to get back on the track and opps. Most experienced drivers know that at that place if your right side tires fall off the edge of the track, you turn right and drive into the grass to save your butt and cars.

Ummm, where are they? I'd love to see them actually, and not to gawk, but just to see the extent of the damage.

T10 is Southbend, right?

I was running in that session when it happened. Sad to see the car in the state that it was but it does look fixable.

Hazman and I had a couple of good session running against one another. It was my first time out in the car and I had a blast and VIR is amazing. I've got some pics and videos but it'll be later in the week before I can post anything.

With all the talk about rollbars and such on these cars, I am really interested in hearing about the extent of the roof damage. If anyone can elaborate from what they saw....

Our local club had an event at a track where a stock C4 Corvette did a low-speed roll in the grass just after a big rain storm. He got it sideways headed down a hill and it got tripped by the soft soil. He was running without the targa. He lost the rear hatch glass and the windshield frame got flattened, but the hoop held up fine and he just walked away.

But after seeing that, I always leave my targa in place.

Usually won't matter as it'll eject the targa anyway, but I run with mine on as well. Those four little bolts can't handle that kind of abuse though.

Keep doing that but I don't think it will really buy you very much. I had the misfortune on the street of a near head-on with an SUV in my C4. The OE targa exploded into pieces which fell on my head & lap. This was because there was some sideways component to the impact, and the frame twisted a lot. The rest of the car held up a lot better except of course right at the impact site.

if there is video of the incident, please encourage them to share for educational purposes. The Audi R8 crash at turn 7 is one I keep handy, and other "trouble area" examples are always of value.

Glad the driver and car (mostly) are OK!
