Ecclestone wants fake rain to make F1 racing more exciting

Good ol' Bernie. His treasure trove of pre-season PR babble just never runs dry.
It would be a lot cheaper to just randomly release bees into the drivers' helmets. Or maybe have a Foucault pendulum swinging back and forth across the track that the driver had to calculate to miss each lap.
Sheesh.

F1 is boring. The most excitement comes from qualifying and pit stops. Minimal passing. Widen the courses and let the guys really race.

To each their own but I hardly think Formula 1 is boring...it's the only racing I set the DVR to record. Sometimes I wish they'd quit screwing around with the rules and requirements (and focus on racing the fastest, most capable cars possible) but boring its not...IMHO.

I with you, Wayne. I find F1 wonderfully interesting on many levels. In no other series could you even propose a 6-wheel race car, build it, race it, and *win* with it, all in the course of one season! (see Tyrrell P34.) I do miss that level of possibility these days, I must admit.
As for messing with the technical rules, that's part of what makes it interesting. F1 is a technical exercise as much as anything else and seeing what the engineers come up with each round is part of the fun.
(We'll also overlook the stunning conflict of interest in the fact that the F1 Working Group responsible for all the technical rule changes and tasked with the job of creating more passing is made up of the very engineers who will then go back to their desks to solve the problems they have just posed for themselves and try to make sure that no one can pass theri cars. Makes ya go "hmmmm." Gee, year after year these rules seem to be poorly written and leave lots of stuff open to interpretation. "Hmmmm." )

Sigh. In a bold effort to redefine the meaning of "brilliant"...
----
US GP boss eyes fake rain for Texas track
Date 2011-03-08
2012 US Grand Prix organiser Tavo Hellmund has admitted he thinks Bernie Ecclestone's idea to spice up Formula One with artificial rain is "brilliant".
F1 chief executive Ecclestone said it would be "easy" to ready the irrigation systems at "a number of tracks", and one of them could be the venue currently under construction in Texas.
The Austin American Statesman reports that Hellmund thinks the idea is "brilliant", adding that wet weather racing is "spectacular" and "compelling" that allows "true talent" to shine.
He also said the system was viable for Texas because construction of the track "is in the beginning stages".

I enjoy a race with rain, the 'chessgame' of predicting when the rain will start/stop, when to go to wets/dry/intermediate tires. There is gamesmanship in that, but wondering when the sprinklers will turn on, not so much.
F1 qualifying is exciting now, with knockout rounds, but the races can get boring. Taking the fuel load part of the game out kinda sucked. The technology of the cars, is nothing short of amazing though.
