What helmets you guys running
Time for a helmet upgrade to Snell 2010 and wanted to see what everyone was using and a good place to buy helmets? Will most places pre-install HANS on a helmet these days?

I've run Bell and Arai's all with a HANS. I've got an Arai GP6-RC right now and I love it. Most helmets now come pre-drilled for the HANS device. Honestly, helmets are really all about personal preference, for example an Arai might not fit as well as a Bell on some people etc. Depending on the Helmet, buying straight from the manufacture is sometimes beneficial. That's all I got

I use the Simpson Carbon Fiber Stingray. I think the SA2010 one is called the Devil Ray. Both come with holes drilled for HANS but I had to install the anchors myself when I bought my HANS.
The reduced weight of the carbon fiber really makes your neck feel better after long runs.

Thank you for all the quick feedback, I have my old helmet on ebay and once it sells I am going to order the new helmet. Anyone know of someplace to get a good custom paint job? I want to try the C6 Brickyard pace car paint scheme.

Never thought much of HJC, have always been a Simpson or Bell person. Back when I worked at a motorcycle shop they were considered the kmart special of helmets. I will give these a look as things change.

I've always been a Bell guy, because that's what has felt the most comfortable to me. Love that new carbon Simpson, but it just doesn't fit me right. I'm going to check out the HJC... . You really need to find a place to go and try a bunch on before you buy one.

I agree with tryng them on, but the closest place for me would probably be VIR. I am not aware of any places in the Richmond area where they cary a decent stock of auto helmets.

Guys, my replica Eddie Irvine Marlboro F1 helmet did not sell on ebay. Anyone a collector and interested? I will put it in the C5 for sale section and post a new thread in this section with price and pictures. It is only SA95 rated so it is more for a collector than for racing.

Carbon HJC here as well
you won't believe how light they are till you try one.
remember buy a $50 helmet for a $50 head.
it's the one place you don't want to skimp.

SA2010 vs. SAH2010
If you gents are using a HANS know your anchors. Old anchors are screw into the retaining washers in the helmet. New anchors are placed and retained by a screw into the retaining washer in the helmet. SAH2010 have M6 head neck restraint "retaining washers" bonded into the helmet. That means you need the new anchors so that you can index the release point on the anchor. Old anchors you might get lucky in the alignment or just not be able to use them with the SAH helmet. So you may want to consider SAH2010 helmets if using new style anchors but use a SA2010 helmet and drill or place the retaining washer the traditional way to use the old anchors. The reason this is an issue is because it is best to orient the anchor the same on each side so that you can release the HANS from the helmet easily if you are not using a HANS quick release.
