R6 vs A6 vs Slicks
I have run R6's for last two seasons...(about 8 events a year)
I was wondering are A6's or Slicks any better?
What are people using and why?

I've heard the new Michelin slick compound last up to 35 track sessions before performance starts to deteriorate, so even with the higher cost of the slick over the R6, the cost per session is cheaper based on this info. Not to mention, the higher grip levels of the slick over any R6/A6.
So, I should have my new wheels/michelin slicks delivered today, so I will advise when I have some real-world experience.

I get about 10-12 sessions from the R6 before I they drop off considerably.......(3 track events)
Even tho I'm not competing I like fast....
So slicks are slower??? then A6's or R6's??

I have never used the A6 or R6s. I did get 12 R80 scrubs over a year ago for a good deal. I have been more than pleased with them. I got over 50 sessions on one pair (rotating from front to rear and right to left). Only got 27 on other pair just running them on the fronts. Normally running 2:12 laps at VIR and 1:40 laps at Rd ATL. When I am done with these, I plan on buying new ones as these were scrubs. I only do advanced HPDE and don't push car to limits, but they lasted 4 times longer than the R888 scrubs I was using. HTH.

Car set up, tracks driven, driving style/ability, weather, length of sessions, fast for one lap/fast over 20 laps/fast over multiple events, tire sizes, tire stagger front to back, pressures used, probably 20 other things.
But mostly, it doesn't matter because if you're running HPDE, get the cheapest tires you can buy out of someone's scrap heap and spend the left over money on more events.

Slicks provide better performance than A6s -- given both tires are on a set up to offer max benefit.
Pirelli (D5 compound) are great, followed by Michelin.
Like mentioned, simply slapping on a tire will not guarantee faster lap times. To get max performance out of a tire -- spring rates, camber flexibility, etc... all contribute.

those disposable dippers will get you every time.
For W2W in a NASA or SCCA 20 to 30 min race.
NEW A6s ( to 3 or 4 heat cycles) are ready from the drop of the green flag.
R6s take a lap or two to get heat into them. But the guys with the A6s are long gone and you wont catch them.
Slicks with softer compound are great, but may not be able to be used in some race classes, DOT tires required.
Longer races 40-50 min NARRA slicks over A6s - the As will get greasy
for HPDEs use scubb slicks, $50/ $100 each last 3 -4 weekends
So YES it DEPENDS on the use, length of time on the track, track temp and car set up

I'm not in a race from start so I will skip the A6's .....and from what I'm reading the Slicks will outperform the R6's in both traction and durablity...scrub slicks here I come...............

I ran all day at your stomping ground yesterday with the R6's...I was pretty much heat cycled out so I ended up in the grass a few times.
I run a 11 Grandsport set a 2.0 neg camber front and 1.2 rear...The R6's tend to cord on the outside.......mostly on the left front....that course seems to beat that tire up the most. If slicks will give me more traction and last longer I will try them next.......... Tx for the info..

Melting Slicks
I have used A6s and scrub slicks for HPDE, and both seemed fairly comparable to me for grip, BUT I corded the outside edge of the slick in two weekend events so clearly the setup was not correct for the slick (the A6s lasted many weekends for me). By the way, it was the left front and I think Autobahn did it! (and maybe Road America had a little to do with it....)
I will probably continue to go with the scrub slicks, and work on the setup. I also like them because they are lightweight, something my whole setup is focused on anyway (for unsprung and rotational effects), so any time I can find a lighter tire I am happy.

If you want flying lap for the best times, brand new or the 2nd heat cycle of As.
Tires degrade grip wise very quickly. Scrub slinks are IMO the best bang for the track day dollar. Cheap and long lasting.
Will give you great laps, But not your fastest.
I had some NEW GY G19 in 375 compounds. WOW did those have grip and high speed cornering. Down to the cords in 3 heat cycles.
the GY G19s in 450 compound gave me 5 good weekends.
