I have been trying to catch these damn scammers. It is almost impossible to find out their originating point. So, what I have been doing is playing along with them and leading them on as long as i can and then drop them.
They have sent me worthless check and money order via Special One Day Delivery. It doesn't cost them a lot of money, it pisses them off more than anything.
Try it and you will be surprised.

I wouldn't want them knowing my address.

They just steal someone's postal or fed ex corporate number and use it. Cost them nothing . If its to good to be true it is a scam 99.9% of the time.

Got the following message from a company that does pre-purchase inspections:

"There is 1958 Corvette being advertised here in Dallas at Tobias Auto Sales. I have been to the address of his advertised showroom and it is a vacant lot. The image of the Corvette is the same as one Corvette Mike is advertising out of California.

"I noticed a thread about this car on your site, Do Not fall for this crook!

"Thankfully, we checked it out before our client turned over any money!

"I have reported him to the Dallas Computer Crimes Division."

He was in Florida the last time I seen his post. Before I did anything I called the fire dept to see if I could get someone to check it out. I even offered them 100,00 and they did not want to get involved. So, I called the Chief of Police. He said he would ride by when he went to work the following morning. Same results vacant lot.
Buyer beware. If you have a double call the police in the city and ask them to help identify the cat

Good Luck.

This phishing scam has been going on for at least 15 years now and there's an example pretty much every single day.

Please tell me people arent falling for this.

The phrase, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't," quoted earlier in this thread should raise red flags for anybody.

For some, who might have a touch of larceny in their hearts, they might fall for it thinking they were taking advantage of someone who didn't know the actual value of the car being sold. That's what the scammers prey on.

Do people fall for it? I discussed the Nigerian email scams with an FBI SAC several years ago and was told these scams proliferate because they work.
