Raced Carl Miller and lost to him in the semi final at Sanair in 76 or was it 75? with my H/MP Maverick. Had him covered by .2 Lost cause my crankshaft broke at 3/4 track blowing out the side of the block.....got a picture of that somewhere ....dragging the starter cross the finish line with Carl going by.
Those were fun times Dave....that is why I am back to running with a couple of Dover regulars (Doug Smith and Joe Huestis) at least once a month. They moved down here a few years ago... Been using my 442 which has up til now just been sitting. I will see if I can post a few pics.
It has been a blast and brings back some memories.

looks like one of your pics is the same Tijuana Taxi (1953 vette) I posted above. Do you know when your pic was taken?
I saw this car yesterday at a Mooresville NC cruise-in. Obviously a refugee from New Jersey (like me) but I couldn't find the owner to get the story.
He was number 1080 at Etown....

Posting This from An e-mail I got....Any Help...Reply at our Forum:

"Last fall I bought a 1957 project Corvette and am now in the process of restoring it to its original condition. I am contacting you because I'd like to find a previous long time owner (since 1960), Gregory Sutter who my ownership documents indicate lives in Saugerties, New York. The car appears to have been last registered for the road in 1965 after which I think it was dramatically modified for drag strip racing. Internet searches for an address or phone number for Greg have come up dry so I am trying to find someone who can help lead me to him. One of my goals is to find some photographs of the car racing over the years. Another is to talk with Greg and develop a history of the car.
I suspect that the Corvette was raced at the Dover Dragway since it is so close to Saugerties. If it would help, I can provide you with photos of the car when I bought it. This Vette is unique enough; filled in exhaust pipe exits in the rear fenders, no aerial hole, 40's ford front straight axle; that It will stand out from other 57 Vette drag cars."
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Cool pictures. You have to wonder where a lot of these old cars are today.
I went there one time, maybe twice, for a swap meet in 1984. It was kind of out in the woods.

I'd take all of them over a matching number restoration any day. I woner how many have become *one owner- matching number* garage art?
These are the cars that earned the bad boy fast Vette reputation that we all love. These were on the *front line* on the battlefield and earned all the glory!

the red '54 from Dorners Sons is in my garage, currently 283, 2x4, Turbo 350, Mustang II front end, 4 wheel disc brakes- and it's on the street!
Mark Werner ran in back then, it ended up with a 426 Hemi & a clutch-flight.
