in my opinion, that is a lot of hp you will probably never use. i put a ls3 in a 63 and that
is almost too much hp. but i have an original chassis under it. you will have more meat
under the the rear end, than i do. jim

For women...you can't be too thin

For men...you can't have too much horsepower

But in this situation, you may be pushing the envelope!

The parts are very similar...mast uses their M90 ECM which i know nothing about and stock GM intake and GM 90mm throttle body.

Has anyone had problems with delivery? They say 4-6 weeks. 4-6 is workable....10-12 is not!

lastly....I can drive right over and knock on the door of the local builder if there are problems...but Texas is a 3 day drive from here! Not that generally once you tune these LS engines they should be problem free.... Just wondering if anyone has had problems and how customer service was in dealing with them...or if you are just another number.
At 22k you are knocking on LS9 door....

I figured the local builder is pricey...but he is local..."buy local"?? I think the difference is too much.

Mast Motorsports pricing seems more in line with what makes sense, its just the question of whether they are reliable and how rock solid their engines are for the price they offer and whether or not they actuall DELIVER within the 6 weeks they say.

How was the original chassis? I would have some interest!

I have the Mast black label LS3. I bought it through Pace Performance on Jan 30, 2011 and received ~ March 19. There were several parts that were backlogged, primarily the heads. I would call Chris Durrett at Mast and ask him about their current backlog to ensure the timing works for you. We test fired the engine last week and it fired up on the first turn of the key. Can't wait to drive it!

There is a local guy in Vancouver selling a new LS2 dyno at 500 hp. He is asking for $8,000 but he can be talked down, if this fits your needs. Much lower than what you are looking for but it is available today.

I agree, which 5spd? Some have complained the TKOs can be a challennge shift at high RPM. I've loved my T56s.

Mast has a solid reputation on motors, plenty of guys over on Pro-touring.com are running them at their AutoX and track events. Roommate is currently building a '69 Camaro with a C4 subframe they designed and a Mast LS3/T56 magnum for driveline.

For what it’s worth, I’m doing two right now, a ‘59 and a ‘62. I have one chassis, a Street Shop that incorporates C4 suspension with a Dana 44, the other chassis will incorporate C6 suspension with a Viper rear end. The Viper rear end will handle up to 1,000 hp, not that I'll be anywhere close to that, I'm putting in a LS2 and a LS3. I believe it’s a beefed up Dana 44. I’ve been told that the 5-speed will fit the C2 better than trying to squeeze the T56 in, on the C1’s the T56 is no problem, I’m using the T56 on both of mine.

My comment is more general in nature than specific to your engine.

In life I have always been willing to spend more if it represented a better value to me. I can see the writing on the wall and you are investing a lot of time and money into your project.

To ME if I had a good relationship with the local builder, if I was happy with his quality and reputation, and I perceived better service in the future, it would be worth a few extra dollars up front.

Default Oh No!

Be still my heart. I wanna go right out in my garage and start taking something apart. I really really love those resto cars both C1 and C2. Looks like you are going to have a great car, keep up the good work, wish I could offer more than moral support.

Looks likes a great project. Like the fact that you have had a rendering done for the build and love seeing builds that are not the same old treatments to body too.

Just follow up with interior that matches up with the modernization of build.

Engine and controller wise, Mast Motor Sports has a great reputation. You get what they advertise, quality. If you go with them, you might want to take a look at their CAN gages and see if they can be mounted into stock cluster if your are going to be using it. No problem if your not.

If you aren't a member of LS1tech, you might want to join. Mast is a supporting sponsor.

Another company you might want to look at for engine is Katech Enginneering. They build great engines and you get what they advertise too.

Have you spoken to your local builder about the price difference?
If so how come he is so much more pricey?

The Viper diff is a Dana 44 as well.

I thinks it's call a Dana 50. Viper 3.07 gear requires you to grind a 44's case to fit it. Gears are beefier than 44's.

The Viper gears are larger than the C4 gears. Not all C4 D44s require grinding, plenty of the later cases don't.
