Default Why are people so deceptive???

I just purchased a solenoid off ebay for my 66. It is the correct #1114356 part. The first two pictures are from the Ebay ad - looks great and like new.

The second two are of what I got today. The bakelite cap is nasty looking and the housing has been rebuilt so many time that the part number has just about disappeared and it has been crimped so many time that it looks like crap.

And this is from one of the forums favorite vendors - NOT!!!!! i'm afraid to try and return it and not get my money refunded. Yes, I was forewarned by many on this forum not to deal with this vendor!!!!!

I'd send that back so fast....... Looks like somebody used some sort of device to grip the body of it and left big indentations....among other issues.

Lets guess....You bought it from Chicago Corvette.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-72-1114...sories&vxp=mtr

File a complaint with ebay and paypal. Return the item with a tracking number and get your money back. File negative feedback.

Definitely not as advertised unless the ad said the actual item wasn't the one pictured!! Even then it's not something I'd keep. I'd send it back too!!

Good guess! I've sent him an email asking for a swap for the one he has pictured and I even offer to pay shipping both way. I'll see if he responds.

I thought that to, but I can't find any disclaimer in the ad. He still has it up as he has more for sale. His comment under condition says "Remanufactured: A properly rebuilt automotive part. The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and examined for wear and breakage. Worn out, missing or non-functioning components have been replaced with new or rebuilt components. It is the functional equivalent of a new part and is virtually indistinguishable from a new part."

If I don't hear from them tomorrow, I'll call. Not sure how to send it back. He has 5 day money back return on his Ebay ad, but I've never returned anything I bought via Ebay.

you have another thing coming if you think Al Fierke cares about negative feedback, he buys under one name and sells under another. mztercarb is graygracy. hopefully the OP isn`t holding his breath waiting for a direct refund from Chicago Al or even a reply...me I would go straight to ebay and file a complaint like posted above...

I have had to use paypal dispute twice for similar situations (not Corvette parts) and in both cases Paypal quickly ruled in my favor. The photos should be sufficient, open a Paypal dispute and do ALL communication with the seller through the ebay system-not email.

Buyers can still leave negative feedback and I won't deal with sellers with significant negatives, it isn't worth the hassle.

And YES for something like this PayPal is absolutely the way to go, using ONLY eBay messaging to contact the seller so everything is documented. Actually just open a "not as described" claim and you are covered. All you need do is return the part to the seller and be able to prove it, i.e. have a tracking number that confirms delivery to seller's address. If the part is less than $250 you don't even need to pay for signature confirmation. Above $250 get a signature or PayPal won't cover it

How close are you to chicago??? I once drove to a guys house and his father answered the door.. I explained to him that his son had bought a transmission from me and I never received the money. I showed him all the email traffic and my paypal transactions. He called his son to tell him to come home, and then promptly made him take the muncie out of his 68 POS nova while we sat in the driveway and watched.. Even gave me a hundred for driving out there.. Just saying, may be worth a drive...

Default Deceptive?

The buyers that play the numbers game, not sellers are the ones that continue to buy old junk parts for stupid money perpetuate the issue when you can go to any local parts store and buy a new one for 20 bucks or less.......and with a guarantee.

Why are some people so deceptive?
Especially those that depend on a good reputation, or should.
I have dealt with Al and came off thinking that he just doesn't know or care about the damage it does to his reputation. He made it right with me, it just took forever.
I think people are deceptive for multiple reasons. Poor management, ignorance, apathy,
bypolar is a popular excuse for a lot, but probably mostly it's greed and desperation.

I've had a couple of deceptive purchases, one with ebay, and the other from craigslist, but through paypal. Both times have settled the dispute within a couple of days because most don,t want the problem.
My recent delema was with corvettepartsonline.com. Unfortunately I I sent them a check. Two months of BS, begining to think I'm screwed.

Understand that eBay doesn't know if the seller sent the item or if the buyer is showing a different item and just claiming the seller sent it. Classic he said/he said problem.

I've heard of people who received old phone books in a box rather than what they purchased. As long as a seller can present a tracking number with a weight close to the correct item then eBay must rule in the sellers favor. The eBay honor system only works when people are honest.

If you use eBay regularly you can expect a predictable percentage of transactions will be problematic. Even more so when buying from sellers known to be problems. But just like retail stores having to absorb losses caused by shop lifting, employee theft, etc. so do eBay buyers caused by unscrupulous sellers.

Hats off to that father! He's a stand-up guy even if his son wasn't!
