406 sb rebuild info on new AFR 195 heads
I am freshing up my 406 sb and am putting on a set of AFR 195 heads any info on these. The engine specs are as follows. 10.7 CR. 5.7 rods comp cams street roller ( solid roller) .586 lift 244@ .050 ,1.75 headers ,Team - G single plane intake. 750 dp holley want to keep the rpm below 6,500 . I am running a 4000 stall with a th400 and a 4.11 gear in my 62 vett at the drag strip. Old combo went 11.68 at 115.

YEP!!!! You need to go with 210-220 intake runners. Otherwise, you won't be happy with the potential that your cam can provide.
Keep in mind, the BIGGEST runner SB heads will never be as big as the SMALLEST runners of a BB head (NOT including peanut port heads).
For example, stock oval port heads for a stock 396 (10inches smaller than your engine) have bigger runners.

I'm looking to build a SBC 427 and will look into 15 degree heads for it.

The heads are # 1034 I think they are 64 or 65 cc. The reason I chose the 195s over the 210s, the 210s flow up to 700 lift and my cam can't take advantage of that . This is still a street car.

Its not lift...its volume of air. Runner volume. That 406 wont be able to suck enough air through those 195s. What did you have on it before?

A good friend of mine with an 11.5 to 1 406 with a solid roller cam and 195 AFR heads made 550 hp on the dyno at 6300 rpm. On a 195 cc intake runner with a 406 don't expect much power to be made after 6500 rpm.
On my personal 406, 11.55 to 1 and a 268/272 at .050 .660/.630 lift solid roller cam and AFR 210 heads made 607 hp at 6600 rpm and 556 ft*lbs of Tq and the was still making 591 hp at 7000 rpm and 550 hp at 7500 rpm. Given that the power didn't take a nose dive in the upper rpm levels shows the 210 heads can flow a good amount of air even with bigger inch small block motors.
The AFR 195 head is a great head for an all around street car, if this is more of a drag car the AFR 210's are a head you can grow into as you upgrade your race program in later years.

I had a set of early sportsman 200 cc intake port (1990) with /2.050 and 1.600 valves. On the dyno it made 488 hp at 5500. The afr heads out flow the sportsman heads across the whole lift range up to .600 , I had them both flowed . Because I have a stock block and crank 550 hp would be my limit.

Long stroke cranks/short rod not my preference

Not knowing the quality of your bottom end and in consideration of the high rod angle, I probably won't want the large port heads for your engine, because then it would zing to a higher RPM than the smart RPM redline limit you are considering with this long stroke short rod combo!

On a 406 ci motor I would look at 225 heads. I ran the TF 225 on a 402 ci motor. Now running a RHS 427 ci sb motor with TF 245 heads.
