Isn't this the industry standard ? This is why the two stage paint projects are so expensive. Labor intensive to match all like surfaces.

I would not agree with 'expensive' begin used to describe a two stage paint job. It is ALL in what a person WANTS and it is ALL in the PREP...so what is applied on ti makes no difference....and if you calculate the materials...the difference is NOT that much... unless a person is trying to win an award for getting their car painted the cheapest. And just to let people know if they are not aware of it....THERE IS NO AWARD for doing a paint job for X dollars.

Anxiously awaiting for our '62 to be painted. It will once again, be painted a non-original red color.
Original was white, but the following picture was the color when we acquired the car over 20 years ago.
Here it is getting final prep with color to follow.
Of course, as you can see, originality is not my preference.
Although I do appreciate the original's as well!
Like many have said...to each their own!

I'm kind of with Dub on this one. Modern paint formulations, multi-stage paints, metallic content/size, and surface appearance are so far from original GM finishes that I could question if a lot of repaints are really the equivalent of "original". An original paint survivor car is original, but a repaint that is "matching" may not really represent originality.
Sort of like a modern day repaint - even if there is an attempt to match it's original color - is the equivalent of a re-stamped motor.

It is as close as I could get on mine and I won't change the color of mine to anything but Nassau Blue (or however close I can get to it with modern formulations). My reasoning is more sentimental than anything else. If Dad had painted the car something other than Nassau, I'd probably leave it that way because I am trying to keep the car as close to what I remember growing up as possible.
With all of these (along with any of the modification threads, etc.) I look at it this way: your car, your choice. I may not like it, but I don't feel the need to give much extra thought or commentary. Our personal opinions about what looks good is what makes the world goes round.
