I don't think it's any different than just pulling one off and replacing it with a new one. Just set the needle to zero and push it on while holding the shaft with needle nose pliers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Dennis

Assuming the stem tip on the speed cup is not damaged or broken, the needle is just pressed back on at the zero position.
Calibration is a different story. Done correctly, it’s a combination of adjusting the speed cup hairspring and first worm magnet gaussing. Unless you have some sophisticated equipment, I would recommend leaving that part to one of the professionals that specialize in midyear speedo’s.

Install the pointer by placing it at about the 12 o'clock position on the shaft. Push down while turning the pointer counterclockwise to the 0 position. Increase pressure gradually while turning and the pointer will be locked to the shaft.

Thanks guys, finally finished cleaning and painting dash, now to reconnect everything and put back in car. This has been an exercise in patience. Just hope all works because I do not!!!!! Want to do it again.

So, those among us who have replaced a broken or discolored needle NEED to have the speedo recalibrated? I'm not sure about that. I replaced mine and as I have driven for several years past readout speed monitors, it dead on the money. Maybe I'm one of 331. Dennis

Remember, midyear speedo mechanisms are notorious for developing problems. My first ’67’s speedo failed after two years (in ’69) and 30,000 miles. Midyear speedo’s are now 48-52 years old and factors like loss of magnetism, wear, corrosion, and dirt have taken their toll. I would say it’s the exceptional orignial midyear speedo that doesn’t need calibration.

Temp guage
Finally got dash hooked back up and speedometer needle fell off again, everything else worked though except new temp guage is not reading properly. Do I need to set needle at 100 mark, it keeps going back to a straght position on left. I did not move needle when I received it
