66 frame - coupe vs. convertible
OK, there is a difference between the 1966 frames for coupes vs. convertibles. I don't know what it is.
Descriptions are good, pictures are much better.
I have a 66 frame for sale, just trying to figure out what exactly it is.
Thanks

Convertible will have the extra body mounts which are underneath the door sill plates, coupe will not have those mid mounts. They can obviously be added or removed as needed for whichever body goes on it. No differences beyond that.

There was only one frame part number (without the #2 mount bracket); the #2 mount was added to convertibles on the Chassis Line at St. Louis.

Emmcomas - with GM's ID of body mounts with the firewall mounts #1, back end of frame rails behind seats #2, and rear mount behind rear tire #4, the convertibles had the #2 mount under the door threshold - roughly even with or a little ahead of the front edge of the seat

Always wondered what that hole was for. Like Dan said, learn something new every day!

OK, it mush be obvious to everyone but me.
What part will be on the convertible frame that will not be on the coupe frame. Can you point to it on the picture?

JohnZ's first picture - the mount with the shims taped on - those mounts/captured nut are not on a coupe frame.

That is who I am talking to about it. I can't recall now whether or not this frame had that mount or not, and it is damaged in the rear, but it is a solid frame. It did not look too difficult to repair, and we can definitely price it attractively.

Is the original VIN stamped on the frame? I believe it is on the driver side above the wheel well. If it is, it will tell you if this car was a coupe or convertible.

The frame VIN is actually a VIN DERIVATIVE, or shortened version of the VIN. It does not include the early part of the VIN that would differentiate a coupe or convertible. Just look at the body mounts to tell this.

Yes - the bolt hole was pre-pierced in all birdcage sills, and the access hole was molded into the fiberglass body sills.
