"Day 1" "Day 2"
OK - I'm seeing these terms bandied about and I'm clueless. Is this some means of designating a production build date, or, how a car might look after it had left the factory for a period and owner/dealer mods started to appear ?
I've seen it in both contexts...

Just saw "day 2" for the first time in a post relating to aftermarket wind wing installation. That usage seems to apply to owner modifications. Now that I've been alerted to this new terminology I'll be on the lookout for more examples as I've gotten really tired of "matching numbers."

That's about how I feel. I think my '63 might be a Day 10 car and the '61 might be a Day 252 car....

Day one car is a bone stock car. Day two is when it has a bunch of period correct mods. Like wheels, flairs, 6 tail lights, ect

I thought day 1 was the day your GTO came home from the dealership. And on day 2, you added a sun tach, a set of headers, and some cragar wheels. I think folks are now trying to restore their cars with sixties dated day 2 parts. That is my take on it......

Yup, that was my intent when I used the term "day two." This was what many of us did when we got a car that was new to us. By the second day we personalized it in ways that were within our capabilities. For some like me that might have been mud flaps and a new mirror on the right side, while other more talented guys put on headers and changed the rear end. My 56 BelAir convertible is a "day two" car. I added Smittys, Corvette valve covers, and a set of under dash gauges. With a few hours work I could return it to "day one" when it was delivered.

Never used the term day 1 but day 2 was after changes to make it what you liked, as simple as changing wheels or the skies the limit.

Too much nonsense. I just keep my car running and drive it. Like last night. I must have killed about a million or so bugs riding in the country. Then my wife and I wiped the deceased evidence away. For the bugs it was "last day".

Have heard this term for the past 5 years or so, in the industry among car guys. Means just what the other guys have said: owner -added /made changes when the car was fairly new. Mag wheels, headers, Sun tach, Hurst shifter, etc. Aftermarket mag wheels alone, if period correct, are enough to make a 'Day 2' car. I don't know if I'd call a car that had mods done to it 10-15 years after it was built a day 2 car, though. Like a '57 Corvette that was panel-painted in--- say, 1972. That would be more of a "Day 5" car in my book!

IMO a car was "day 1" for one day in its life.

Wow - the ultra rare coupe luggage rack....on a fuel-injected split window too....
Even the dog looks surprised !
Thanks for posting that. Coincidentally, there is an article on that very part in this month's NCRS restorer. Ugly as hell in a coupe, but very practical.
Definitely a "Day 2" thing

So - that IS William Shatner?
Day 1/Day 2.............. I see an opportunity here for establishing what was correct for Day 2. I propose the founding of the NCMS - National Corvette Modification Society, with judging standards as to what are period correct modifications............

How about "Day Zero" for the hyper-restored cars? You heard it here FIRST!
