Stuck clutch
I went out for gas yesterday and was on my way home and all of a sudden I was having trouble getting it into a gear. Managed to get it into 4th, I was still rolling. Made it back to the house. It's stuck, pushing in the clutch has no effect, wheels still turning. I have the car up and can see the fork is still on the throwout bearing, Z bar still attached. Peddle pressure seems a bit more than normal. I don't see any fragments of anything destroyed. I see no alternative than to take it all apart and see what went wrong. I saw some people who have unstuck clutches that have sat outside for periods of time, but this is not the case. I was driving it.
Any thoughts. Gordon

Any chance your clutch pedal is breaking up under the dash? A symptom would be the clutch pedal is hanging lower than it should. Another symptom is the clutch pedal is laying in the floor.

Nope clutch pedal is normal, except maybe more pressure required to press. Don't think there is any miracle cure. Have drive shaft out, working on removing shifter now, then trans, blowshield, etc

.....and if you are using a diaphragm type clutch cover it too could be collapsed and/or broken. BTDT, and had to float the gears to get it home. Clutches don't 'stick' unless the car has been sitting for a LONG time.

It takes about 2 months during the summer here in SE Louisiana. That's about it.
Wintertime is much more forgiving.

It is a diaphragm type, but have not gotten into it yet. Just couldn't get started on it. Still bummed out.

Something looks amiss.

Great - any idea of the manufacturer (or supplier) of the clutch?

Time for an LUK or Sachs clutch....life is too short for Chinese parts.....nobody likes doing clutch jobs over and over. I hate seeing this stuff. The disc doesn't even look that old or abused, either.

Other than broken everything was still in good shape. I think it was a Zoom don't think it was the Ram. Just the stock replacement from Jeg/summit about $110. My youngest brother is wise beyond his years. Many years ago he adopted a motto " if it does not cost enough I don't want it. " Yep, soon as I saw the made in china, that was a sign.
I was thinking about this one but don't want a overly heavy clutch

Don't think this one can handle enough HP

11" clutches and 168-tooth flywheels were only used on big-blocks (except L-78 & L-88 & ZL-1 & ZR-2) and all small-blocks from '69-up (except ZR-1). Everything else used 10.5" clutches and 153-tooth flywheels, except C-1's, which used the large 168-tooth flywheel, but they were only drilled for the 10.5" clutch.

Thanks John, but I wonder what I have? Are you saying my flywheel may be a big block flywheel? Are you saying since an 11" pressure plate bolts on it is a ?
I've used this flywheel since I got the car 30 years ago. Sorry for being confused, but I'm sure I'm about to learn something.
Thanks Gordon.
Sure wish I hadn't ordered a new clutch last night

China's finest ,and we're so dumb we keep buying more ! Me included. That clutch face hardly looks broken in.
I put a McLeod in my 60 (SB) and a Centerforce in my 64 (BB) both 10.5 in and both work well. I don't feel you need an 11 in, but that's me.

I don't know if China had anything to do with that spring coming loose or not. A long time ago, I saw at least one, maybe two OEM GM clutches that did that. Weren't made in China either.

Looks like I should replace this also. Looks cracked to me. Nearest I can figure it is a 3892632.
