Options for what. Where to store the car or how to store the car
#3
Thanks for the help. ;-)
Where: Was in OP. Virgina.
Options for what: Also was in OP. Options for storing my car.
How: I suppose that depends on what the option is. ;-)
Has anyone else been in my situation:
I'll be selling my home. I need to store my cars for about 12 months until my other home is complete. I suppose I better give Hagerty a call.

Here's my most recent article on car storage. If it's possible it's better to drive them once a month than store them.

I just started a '61 that had been trapped in a barn since Hurricane Sandy (3 years). Cleaned the points, primed the carburetor and it fired immediately. No obvious ill effects from the old gasoline either. Only downside - car was very dirty. If I were doing it again I would cover it with bed sheets to keep the worst of the dirt away. Don't over think the issue for only one year of storage - one year is not much in the life of a car.

If you have some time available before the need for storage, you might try some of the local car clubs to see if any members have something you could use. There seems to always be someone who has a garage space available, but the availability never seems to make it to the general public, mostly because a 'friend of a friend' ends up getting it.

I would just pull it in it's parking place, shut the key off, get out and lock the doors.
If it's damp underneath, I'd think about laying down a sheet of thin plastic to keep moisture off the bottom of the car.
That's it.

I fired up a car of mine that had been in a garage for 4 years. Changed the oil and drove it to my new location, 170 miles away. It was a 40 year old car at the time, no issues. Parking a car for a year, if it's inside, is not an issue. Disconnect the battery and you are good to go. A year is nothing, really.

Car Storage in Northern VA.
There is a place in Fredericksburg, Va. called the Classic Car Center. They can provide both long and short storage. They hosted a couple of events a few years ago for the Mid Atlantic Chapter of the NCRS. Nice folks and facility.

Many years ago, when faced with a similar situation (but when the self-storage lockers were not yet invented ) I put an ad in the paper (or Craigslist today) and asked for a garage space to rent. Found an older women with extra garage space across town. It was much better than leaving the cars outside.

Now I live in a small 1 red light town and this is what I did........I talked to the guy who owns the gas station in town and he hesitated at first but let me put 1 of mine in for 6 months at $35 a month and it's a very nice garage. I never bothered him and just left it there and after 6 months he decided I was not a problem and now I still have that car there. About a week ago I asked to get the car out because the gas was going bad. I got the gas out and pumped up the tires and returned it about 4 hours later and paid my rent up through next April. I'm even thinking about putting a second one in. I think word of mouth will find that person that's not really looking to rent out space but will to a nice person.

I just started a truck of mine that I had put in a friends enclosed shop for almost 6 years. I checked everything out before starting, needed air in tires, and new battery. I cant remember if I put anything in the fuel, but knowing me I probably did. It fired right up, went and filled up with new fuel, have been driving for past month, just parked it again for the winter, hopefully just this winter and not more! Not a 50 year old car, but a 25 year old truck......

I have been down and toured their facility very nice and ample indoor storage, they stored a car for a friend of mine that was deployed. I See Larry above already said this place I guess should read the whole thread.
