Here are some additional pics that the "dealer" sent...

As a dealer, why would you waste the time? Posting a BS ad, taking calls, sending info, etc... what's the end game? I offered a deposit on a cc'd and he said there was no need to, just inspect it and buy it...I talked to the guy a couple times and had several emails. Then silence.... identical treatment to the original poster.

Then show up at his front door with cash. This is not the mid 80's anymore. Running 67 L-71 cars do not sell for that price anymore. Anyone who doesn't live under a rock who likes cars knows about what they sell for. If you think the seller is honest prove us all wrong. At that price on the internet it would have sold in less then in a hour of going on line at that price. You know it and I know it.

If you take a look at the name on the Top flight and the name of the guy in Oregon that sold it for 169k its the same person

Have him take a pic in front of car today. Use today's paper as proof. If he can do that I would take the 2 hour trip.

Default Yes this is a scam, How?

Take the name of a business and go to Whois.com
Look up name and find when registered.

Note this dealer signed up Dec. 4, 2015 for 1 year. Anyone real dealer would probably be years old and be registered into the future maybe 2/3/5 years. This exact same site was also registered in Medford, OR, Tuscon,AZ.
Also go to Google.com and put address in for maps and see empty lot, other car or truck dealer.

Maybe they'll get 25 or 30 people to sent them a deposit?

I understand its a scam, maybe he is waiting on someone to wire him the cash to hold it. I am sure many have already. In the locked thread the person wanted to use escrow.com so it would be a safe deal. They blocked him, Roadking offered him cash on the spot, they blocked him. I know they stole the pics for their website from an Atlanta car dealer. My only take on this is to get someone to wire him cash to hold it via Western Union or cash wire right into his account. So he opens an account at a bank,( they love new accounts ) puts up a fake add, catches as many people possible sending him cash and POOF he is gone. Thats the only way I see it working. I think RandyG is correct.

Bingo, Bowtieguy nails it. Why else would someone turn down cash, unless they don't actually have the car to show you when you get there?

And the scammer certainly is not in Flagstaff, they are hundreds or thousands of miles away sitting at a computer.

Guys please read my ad on Craigslist. I have been fighting these scamers for almost two years. I get the ISP to close down one and they change the name and here we go again.
Please spread the word. Thanks
Frank

Most of your advice in the ad is sound. I don't know why you would jerk around some poor tow truck guy to verify the address of a scammer though. Seems like its own sort of scam to me.

Many of those guys count on tips if they do a good job and often work out of a shop hoping to get the work from cars they return with...seems disingenuous at best.

The advice is good, and I don't mean any offense, but there are a number of grammatical and spelling mistakes in your craigslist ad. Clean those up and you've got a winner.

I think the 75 bucks for a tow truck guy is a great idea. He still gets paid upfront by credit card, and you get to find out if there really is a car or a vacant lot. I towed years ago and really didn't care what it was as long as I got paid.

The add Frank posted sounds like he may have been burnt. The scammers are getting better every day.
