Default Torque Thrust "D'" 65 coupe new photos

Looking at torque thrust D rims. What size rims(width/backspacing) will fit my 65 without clearance issues? What size tire will also fit?

I know this subject has been posted and reposted so please bear with me. Looking for wheels and tires for my 65 coupe. Have seen a prior post stating the torque thrust II have a clearance issue. The rally rims that were on the car now rub since I welded the parking brake tabs back on. What tire and rims are being run without interference? Please post photos rim size, offset, and tire size if possible

I am about finished with my frame off resto on a 65 coupe. The backspacing for my car could not be more than 3.75 inches for the wheel, you must factor in that the tire will add .5 - .75 inches to the 3.75, so that puts the number at 4.25 - 4.5 inches of clearance before you start to rub . The wheel i used just clears the caliper, that is the other big issue, unless you want to use spacers. So the wheels are American racing vn605 d, the torq-thrust D chrome . The rear wheel is 3.75 x 8.5 x 15 , the front 3.75 x 7.0 x 15. The tires are BF Goodrich radial t/a rear 255/60/15 front 225/60/15, i have a mild flare on the rear but i think you will have the room or down size.

Keep in mind that I have drums, but I have D's.... 15 x 7's with 215/60/15's. My backspacing is 3.75". I had heard at the time that disc brakes required a 4.25" backspacing.

Wow, never heard of putting the parking brake brackets back to stock. If you do that, then a lot of wheels and tires will rub.

I might add i also have disc brakes, the 4.25 backspace will put the wheel further towards the middle of the car, so you will have less clearance next to the brake line and shocks.
When i was ready i bought one rim and one tire and checked the wheel fit, if it looked ok when just sitting on the lugs and you cleared the caliper then mount the tires on the wheel. Once the tire is mounted on the wheel its yours. If it not going to work, you only have to send one set back.

last person just removed parking brake and all the hardware, was unaware of clearance issues wish he moved to top, just want to return to stock, may move bracket to top now that I know why he eliminated it .

I have TT Ds on my '66. They are 15 X 6 with a 3mm offset and no spacers. Tires are 205/65-15.

This recipe has never changed. 15" x 6" rims, 3-5/8" backspacing, 205/75 or 215/70 tires. Anything else is trial-and-error for interferences on a stock body.

Tabs and lines are intact. No mods needed for these wheels/tires.

There are some very pretty cars in this thread but I really like a white mid year. And thanks to all who submitted wheel and tire sizes, I am wanting to put on a set of TTs on my Corvette!

ET wheels makes an old fashioned 5 spoke wheel specifically for our C2's. Perfect fit.

fastrad,

Glad you were able to nail the backspacing. Those wheels are killer!
I too share your enthusiasm.
