Not a bad idea.....have a friend who was vintage racing his Mustang at Thunder Hill and the cast iron flywheel let go at about 7000 rpm....took out the engine block and some of the firewall/scattershield...he avoided losing his feet. When we looked it over later, it had been cracked near the hub for a long, long time.....Really tore up the car, and turned his engine into a boat anchor.

This flywheel is original and untouched. I took it today to my ''go to'' machine shop and had it magnafluxed and resurfaced. They agreed it was probably never resurfaced and checked out as good as new.

Keep in mind the flywheel is zero balanced so it does not affect the balance of the engine internals but it needs to be balanced.
The pressure plate gets balanced with the flywheel and the bolt holes will be painted so when you install it on the engine the clocking is correct. The disc is left alone because it spins freely. It's good insurance and not much $ to have the new parts balanced.
