Default Leaky Front Windshield

I have a 1964 coup. The front windshield leaks. I have replaced the windshield seal 3 times and it still leaks. It leaks a lot not just some drips. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution for this problem?

I had the windshield replaced in my 65 Friday. He put a bead of water seal in the glass channel before putting the gasket on the glass. Then a bead in the pinch weld channel before he inserted the cord. After installing the windshield we sealed the rubber to the steel all the way around the outside.

I don't see how it could leak with this method, but I will find out this summer.

It is in excellent condition. It has been leaking since I bought the car in 1999. Two years ago I had the car repainted including cutting out all the rust in the birdcage and replacing it.

Use more sealant....let it dry for a week or more before you clean up the excess...thats what i did...no leaks so far...i restored it 9 years ago...i didn't have to repair my birdcage...

If it's aftermarket glass, the corners may not be formed correctly, pushing out the rubber seal. If it comes out again, I'd get some help and hold it up in the birdcage to see how parallel it runs with the pinch (without the seal).

Here is another area to check. The gap at the bottom of the "231" is accessible from inside the car, add some caulk. Did mine in 1972 - has not leaked since, but before you got a bath.

Going to be doing my leaker in the spring! That being said I'm not going to attempt it myself but instead take it to a glazier especially after reading this thread Other than a good quality windshield weatherstrip what else am I missing? Clips from Paragon? Any one know a part number?

Make sure you are using 3M Bedding compound! After the third time of glass removal in my 64 I was told that I was doing it right but I needed to be using the Bedding compound! Be sure you get a good bead in the rubber channels before inserting the glass and pulling it in place. Also be sure to mask all around on the inside, it will get messy!

Is there not a fiberglass seam that runs across the top of the cowl and down the sides that is hidden under front end. I was told that in may not be the windshield but a break in the seam allowing water to get in and not coming from the windshield area.

Then do like I did after using the 3M Bedding compund.....don't water test it! Mine has not been washed since 2002 when I put the glass in! I just clean it with detail spray.

Last... buy a SHAM-WOW towel and lay it in the floor board if driving and get caught out in the rain! Hope this helps!
