Birth of a New Triple Black 66 Roadster
eBay seller thewrightdeal has listed several Trim Tag and VIN plate auctions, the VIN identified as a "stainless tag" for sale as a "collector item." Right. See http://www.ebay.com/itm/132103937657...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT as one example. Last numbers of the VIN taped over, hmmm. These will appear no doubt on a triple black full restoration 427/425 with extensive documentation in the very near future.

Given the location of the tags and easy of removal with battery operated tools, makes you wonder if you can leave the car anywhere alone.
The value of the car with a missing, incorrect, or state issued tag is much less according to the CF members. Someone makes $3K selling the tags and the owner looses $10 to 20K or more.

Regardless, I consider what he's doing as criminal.

"Selling as Chevrolet collector's item" Boy, with a Buy It Now of $2600, that must be a rich man's hobby, collecting those things!
"Removed from a car wrecked in the 1970's" That part is quite possible, some parts car back then could have had them removed. It would be interesting to ask him if the title to the carcass comes with it, and see what the answer is.

I would guess he covers with tape because he knows that if he showed the whole number, there are guys who keep track, and if it ever appeared on any website on a car for sale, those guys would be crying foul.

Some one would have to run the numbers to see if it was stolen in its lifetime .

There is the possibility HIS story is BS. Or, the value might be to someone who buys it to use it for BS. For example, someone has a wrecked car rebuilt, buys the tags, and titles it as a different car which shows up at an auction as having sat in a barn with 10,000 miles since 1968. If somebody gets the full VIN from the the pics on eBay, they could disprove that.

If he had a title, vin, trim tag, and a picture of the car in a eye catching frame displayed on a wall I think it would be fantastic. I suppose it could be attached to another car but for the dedicated enthusiast it would be a very cool wall art attraction. Not everyone is a crook.
