Opinions on this 63 for sale
This SWC came up for auction yesterday on Bring-A-Trailer.
I'm in the market for a SWC so have been reading the archives to increase my general knowledge of 63's as well as scrutinizing every car that comes up for sale online. I've already decided this one isn't for me, but what I found curious is the NCRS shipping report. It states "30837S117005 S/B 30867S117005." I don't know how to interpret this except that perhaps the shipping records indicate #17005 is actually a convertible, not a coupe?
Also, this car has the deep tool wells which I understand were already phased out by serial #17XXX. Any input on this?
Here is link to the listing:

Looks ok for a quick glance. The vin discrepancy is probably due to the person submitting the wrong vin to the NCRS for the report. Should have been 37, not 67.
The front chrome bumpers look off though. Especially the drivers side.

That's the bluest Daytona Blue I've ever seen - maybe the photos but it appears 'over-the-top' blue to me. A nicely presented NOM fuelie split window....but its at 32K now with 6 days to go and the comments section actually has some interested parties that know what they're talking about. I'll bet the final number on this car is going to be way up there...

Certainly no expert but it looks like a nice restoration. Not a color combo that really grabs me but if I was looking for a SWC, especially a fuelie, I be there raising the price and hoping the others bidders were off to the bathroom. (I could adjust the drivers' side bumper!)

Blue is the wrong color, looks like an honest old car, though. It will be interesting to see what it brings. The lines of these SWC's are just flat gorgeous.

The Peter Pan Blue paint job on that car clashes with the saddle interior. Aside from that and the hi-jacker springs, looks like a pretty good car.

The trim tag is very unique. Most of these things have the right side of the "M" in MOTORS almost aligned with the right side of the "H" in MICHIGAN. There must have been a seismic event in Michigan for this to have occurred. Anything's possible...

The front bumper would need a little shimming at best.
The ad is playing fast and loose with words such as "likely." I also note that a "correct" block was sourced after a "believed" hyrolock and the replacement was then "given" an 870 casting (?)

Now, if you're paying extra for some perceived possible value, different story.

Is the right side of the M in MOTORS supposed to perfectly line up with the right side of the H in MICHIGAN.
How to spot a fake trim tag that looks original?

Mike, I'm not sure the effect of the "replacement" trim tag is on value, so much as it is on the believability of anything else claimed for the car.

You can say whatever you want about a car on BAT, provided it is FACTUAL information. Not saying I endorse the process or like their website at all, but it certainly does hold a seller's feet to the fire with regard to accurate representation. There was another 63 offered there a couple weeks back, with obvious weld patches on the frame rails that weren't described or explained by the seller, and the peanut gallery raked him over the coals for it.
I like the fact that the seller disclosed the restamp plainly and appears to be forthcoming in description. That said, I strongly believe the trim tag is repro and the seller may just not be aware of it. I also find it odd that the car has the deep tool wells in the floor at such a late VIN, I have not seen another car with those wells this late in production. Not to say it didn't happen.
Seems like a nice car to drive an enjoy, and at the end of the day that's all that's important provided the buyer pays a market-aligned price for a driver and not a premium for a believed original car.

I don't know what to believe anymore on 63s....I know of a car 12 miles from me, a 63 convertible, bare body with a VIN under 400 that has no tool box depressions and gray fiberglass everywhere. The car has never left the area and was sold from a now-defunct Winter Garden dealer to the original owner, who died and left it to his brother...who took it apart to restore it and never finished...
