Default Best Way to Clean Aluminum Intake Manifold??

What is the best way or product to clean an aluminum intake while it is in the car. Has old silver dressing on many areas. Someone said brake fluid, another oven cleaner,--don't want to take the paint off the car--just clean the intake.

Busch Aluminum Wash. It comes in various strenghts. The heavy duty cleaner has acid in it but it states in the product discription that it's for intakes. Just be carefull with it.

Same boat -- mine has some oil spots on it, but the silver-speckled paint should still be intact. Would the same stuff take out some oils spots?

Brake cleaner... on either a clean shop rag or sprayed carefully on the area you want to clean, then wipe dry.

break cleaner will clean most of it and aluminum jelly will certainly get it clean...but you have to hose it off with water if you use Jelly

I tried peanut butter & jelly but the motor got salmonella poisoning and died.

Funny. It's dirty because I'm afraid to touch it with anything. I don't know if it would be better just to leave it the way it is or clean it.

I think something like Simple Green brushed on to the manifold (and carb bodies, too) would clean up that light oil residue. Just seal off the inlets to the carbs and 'trash bag' the ignition stuff. Rinse off and let dry.

Easy-off oven cleaner (with care) will clean almost anything off the intake. Brak-kleen will too.
If you can seal off (whatever) and use Eagle1 cleaner that is used for aluminum, non-clear coated wheels, it'll shine like new money. I used that stuff on my 25 year old Centerline wheels. It turns the aluminum white after 15-20 secs., then just run water over it to neutralize the acid. Works good, lasts long, goes real fast!

I had an article about Simple Green. Ya gotta be careful with that stuff. It causes hydrogen embrittlement on a Harley-Davidson springer front-end. I would imagine it will damage other items too. I quit using it when I found this out (I own a Harley, but not a springer)

Castrol Super-Clean and hose it off. That's what I'd try.

First thing is first -- do you still have the oil leak?

We all appreciate it just as much as you do. My car wishes that it was a big block. I told it that I would think about it...

Oven cleaner removes paint too. I would not use it on the engine, unless you want to remove paint from anything it touches.

No nothing leaks at all, the intake wasn't cleaned when it was restored. the owner at that time wanted to keep the intake the way it was. (dirty and stained)
