Default Vibration, Shaking Need Advice (Long)

79 L82

Had a minor vibration that you can feel mostly when the car is under power going up a hill 40-60 mph. It shakes the entire car and seems to be coming from the rear. You can feel it in the steering wheel. Not as bad coasting down a hill at the same speeds.

1. Changed the u-Joints in the drive shaft. No change.
2. Rebalanced and rotated the tires. Very minor improvement.
3. New ball joints and tie rod ends. Front end alignment.
4. New Rear fiberglass Spring and Shocks. Nothing
5. New Rear Half Shafts, Rear Strut Rod Bushings. It's shaking worse than before we changes the half shafts.
6. Today is a four wheel alignment. I'm can't believe that the caster and camber on the rear would cause this, but it needs to be checked.

Any and all opinions welcomed.

When you changed the 1/2 shafts, was there alot of end play in the axle stubs?? Sounds like it is drivetrain related, not balance. If it were a balance issue, it would do it under load or while coasting.

Good Luck, and keep us posted!!!

Checked the rear tow and it's out by over an inch and can't be adjusted back because the TA bushings are shot.

There also is some play in the Axle Stubs. Looks like we have some work to do. Pull the TAs and the rear end.

Thanks for your replies. They were spot on.

good luck in pulling the t-arms.... they are a PITA...i would suggest soaking them down with some pb-blaster for a few days prior to pulling the bolt out

I think I am in a position to read up on this repair myself.

Probably your best choice. A NY car is unlikely to have so little rust that the bolt will just come out. You probably owe it to yourself to try to spray it down with Kroil or PB Blaster first and try, but I'd get mentally prepared to do some sawing at the same time.

Good luck!
