Paint Shop Opinions in Dallas Tx
My '79 frame off is inching toward paint. I plan to do 95% of the body work, prep and to remove everything (interior, glass, doors, lites, etc). I would like to get any opinions on quality paint shops around Dallas, Tx (DFW).
I don't have $10k+, but thought $4-5K would be reasonable. This isn't NCRS and will definitely be a weekend driver. I've spent a lot of time and effort so I want an excellent paint job.
Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

i hear a lot of good things about clark brothers in arlington. one of my friends dad is a classic car collector/restorer and that is where he gets his work done. also, the guy across the street from me owns a performance shop and he also recomended them when i asked where i should get my lights painted. good luck.

I haven't had a car painted by them but Mid Cities Classics in Hurst specializes in Corvettes and the owner Jim Welch is a nice guy. (817) 685-9433

Good luck in your search, I was willing to go 6k, for a stripped and properly prepped 69,
ready to spray primer. Never found anyone in that price range,
so ...I did it myself. 69VETT

PM Kevin aka Vettesbydesign, he's in Odessa and he has done some nice work from what I've seen.
Plus, maybe he can get some new bikini clad girls to pose for some pictures with your car.

I'll check out the 2 possibilities. I've been sort of looking for a while, but now I need to get serious. I want to finish the car THIS YEAR so I've got to find a paint shop. I don't have the space to do the job my self. When not if I find someone I'll post it.

I've got a friend in Lewisville that will probably do it for that. They mostly build rat rods, but he can throw some mean paint. He did my father in law gold winning 64 1/2 Mustang.
BTW - if it is not ready to go, don't bother asking anyone for a price. When they quote, they are quoting todays price. Six months later it will be different.

My powder coater suggested some paint shops and a soda blaster shop. Talked to the blasting shop and he suggested some of the same paint shops. 1st shop no one was there when I went over, 2nd shop moved, 3rd shop was not impressed with. BUT the blaster suggested a shop VERY close to me, Sachse. Went to visit. He was working on a mid '80's Z-28, look really good. Also a '72 Trans Am 455 Super Duty (1 owner), a '76(?) Lil Red Truck (Dodge), an early '90's Chevy Short Bed (paint was finished and it looked good). He had his '72 Vette waiting on a restoration and a '62 or 63 Chevy w a 409 being restored.
SO, I'm going to talk to him a bit more, but I think I may have found the right shop.
He told me 2 months and $5-5.5K for a BC/CC finish.
My car will be in pieces when he gets it and soda blasted.

Went and looked at the shop today and I liked the work they're doing. I'm taking my '71 there for paint Sep 8th and will keep the forum updated with the results.

hah hah... yeah, well, the car is ready. I want some paint on that sucker!
It will be all PPG, which I like as I know the quality of PPG's paints. The car was painted with PPG 12 years ago and it never faded or dulled even though it was a driver and usually sat outside all day in the TX sun.

Zwede, Would you mind if I had a look at your car before and after paint.
I only live about 4 miles from the shop. My car is close to paint, but since I still have some clean up work to finish I'd like to get more educated on prep and painting prior to sending it to the shop.
I intend to use the same shop since I got a good feeling when I talked to the owner, but I want to make sure the car is ready when I take it in.

No problem. I'll send you a PM with my phone number and just give me a call when you want to come over and look at it. Mine is ready for paint, meaning all body work is done, it is in primer and has been blocked. Unless the painter finds a boo-boo, it is just a mask, shoot & buff.
