Crossfire guys in Knoxville, TN?
All
We are new C3 owners. Anyone know of Knoxville local mechanics that are familiar with the 82 CFI cars? I'm sure any competent mechanic can diagnose the little "idle hunting" issues with these motors, but better to find one that knows all the secrets on the front end.
This is the wife's fun car and I don't have the time to learn before "leaf season" (viewing AND raking) in East Tennessee.
Suggestions? Dave

I wouldn't be so sure about present-day mechanics ability to diagnose early vintage computer/injection systems. Unless that mechanic specializes in fuel injection systems problems, better keep looking for one who is familiar with the CFI system.

Here is a little something to look at if you are so inclined.

I have some pretty good techs in both my shops but honestly I bet most of them have never seen or worked on a crossfire.. they are just too young to have had the chance. Most of the basics are the same for most cars but diagnostics for drivability issues would likely end up being a semi-educated guess. If Alldata or the like has a lot of good information, the better chance a younger tech would have with it.

Dont bother asking the wet behind the ear mechanics. They'll look at you crosseyed or start talking sheeet about something they know nothing about.
The CFI Vault forum will be of big help for you or you can do some searches here on "CFI idle" in the C3 or C4 tech forums (84s also had CFI). Usually idle issues have to deal with vacuum losses. I got rid of any funny idle character I had by getting rid of most items that used vacuum, other than the headlights.
Check your TB to intake gaskets by spraying carb cleaner around them and watch for idle changes.
Check all your vacuum hoses by squeezing them off to see if this has an effect on idle character.
Check your IAC motors for proper operation or cleanliness on the pintels.
If your TBs have ever been played with by Bubba, you may need to get a manometer and re-sync them. Procedure can be seen on Digital Corvettes C3 Tech forum also. Search out simpson36. He is amazing with what he has posted on the CFI.
I highly recommend the GM 1982 corvete red Helms manual. It has great walkthroughs for troubleshooting these items in particular.worth the money. Buy used in ebay if you dont want to buy a new repro copy from the Vette catalog vendors.
Good Luck, Brent.
