Impact WRENCH which one to use.
Hello I've been reading this forum for awhile I have a question, what is one of the cheapest impact wrenches that I could get to loosen brake Caliper mounting bolts? . Theses are some tough cookies to loosen. I have never used an impact wrench ( I used to do it with strength ) I just need some suggestions...Thank you.

I purchased a Milwaukee corded 120V impact wrench. Not the cheapest but works very well. It actually works better than my 2 air powered ones.

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy two lengths of 3/4" black iron pipe: one should be 18" long and the other should be 3 or 4 feet long.
Put a 'regular' breaker bar with the necessary socket onto the stuck bolt, then put the longest 'pipe breaker bar' that you can fit over the end of the regular bar....and torque away! It'll come loose. And, those $5 [or less] hardware items will produce more torque than any 'cheap' impact wrench.

I just use jack stands just trying to figure where to get the leverage for the pipe Heck I know from looking at it from the outside it's clockwise to loosen...Oh well I'll keep praying it will come loose..

If you still want an impact gun, think about part number 2623 from Harbor Freight Tools. This was a compromise for me a few years ago, I couldn't afford the gun I wanted and these were on sale plus I had a coupon...I think I paid like $60 bucks. I realize it can be a crapshoot with HF tools, but this thing has been great. Huge torque (box says 625#) and has taken a lot of abuse--all I do is oil it before every use. IMHO this is a much better deal than a $30 or $40 gun that probably makes 250 ft-lbs. (I had one of those, too, and it is useless on the Vette.)

You're doing it right. Just changed mine out. I believe I got angry at it and hammered on the handle of the breaker bar. Also, if you wear gloves, you'll be less worried about smashing a finger and you can put more strength into it.

I have worked in the auto/equipment field for more than 30 years and I have yet to see an air impact that cost less than $200 be worth the powder to blow it to bits. I currently own an ancient CP 1/2 inch gun that might make 250lb/ft, a Matco which I believe cost me $275 which was a POS from day one, and a Snap-On which cost a bit more. That son of a gun was worth every cent I paid and has been alive long enough that I can no longer read the model tag. If the Snap-On won't move a bolt I get the smoke wrench out.

Thanks for all the help BRAVO I got the bolts out now on to the other three used muscle and pounding no damage. The front caliper looks like a bigger bolt, any ideals. The heck with rebuilding I'm gonna buy rebuilt ones...

I know you got eh bolts out but if you still decide to buy a impact I would go to a pawn shop and llok for a good quality unit and if need be have it rebuilt. I picked upa MAC for next to nothing and gave it to my MAC rep and he rebuilt it for 45 dollars.
