Default What paint to use under hood/ hood hinges.

Hey guys I need to know how to finish the underside of my hood, and the hood hinges. I want the closest to original paint color, I'm assuming satin black? Thanks in advance.

The hinges were installed on the hood at the time the car was painted and went through blackout. They can show evidence of body color and semi-flat black paint. For the most part, the underside of the hood is semi-flat black and there is likely to be a border of color coat around all four edges.

Ok thanks, does anyone have any pictures of what that should look like? I was planning on spraying the hood off of the car but it seems like that would be a mistake to get it as original as possible. Also any paint codes or links involved with the actual semi-flat black paint? Thanks!

Do you have the NCRS judging guide for your model year? The guide usually discusses black out, although possibly not to any great length.

Dr. Dobbins' books are good for photo references.

Blackout paint was cheapo semi-flat black and not the quality of color coat paint.

If your hood is stock, you can probably see vestiges of the original color coat and blackout on the underside of it.

The hood that came with it is likely an aftermarket (could be off an original?) big block / LT1 hood. I'm using it because it's what I got, but I still want the original appearance under the hood. Is there a good color match to a better paint than cheapo blackout that I could shoot with a spraygun? I do have a guide that I need to find, it's tucked away somewhere right now.
