Default 1969 427 L71 going to auction

After 17 years of owning my 1969 427/435hp numbers matching Corvette Coupe I have decided to try the auction route to sell my car. I thought about Barrette Jackson but the no reserve scares the hell out of me so I decided to try Russo Steele Auction which is 5 miles from my house in Scottsdale. Both of the auctions run the same week so there will be a lot of potential buyers in town I paid $300.00 to list my car and set a reserve with a 10% commission and with that they will do all of the advertising like Hemming’s, Auto Trader and others. I will not know what day and time they have assigned my car until 10 days before the auction. Best case scenario is I sell my car for reserve worst case is I get to keep my car but out $300.00. I will keep this post undated from start to finish.

11/06/2013 Registered at Russo Steel
11/20/2013 Appeared in Hemming’s

11/27/2013 Appears in the Russo Steele online catalog

12/9/2013 Appears in Autabuy

It must be hard to part with that one.
Good luck on your auction.

Wow... That'd be a hard one to let go.

Gotta get something to replace it. The more toys the better.

I'm interested in following your auction experiance... always curious about the sellers side. $300 is cheap if you value your time. 3 or 4 tire kickers and you have wasted $300 in time.

They had a early special that was 75% off. You are right about the tire kickers. Just the advertising that they do is worth the $300.00

I'm interested in seeing how this ends up. I have a '69 L71 convertible that's matching numbers and am always interested in seeing what territory they're selling for, though one auction doesn't always make for an accurate value...just a snapshot in time.

Roughrider and I will be watching with great interest. I hope you are successful in your quest. We are right behind you.

Not sure if they telecast Russo & Steele, but hope we can get timely results. Mecum has a bunch of L71's up for auction around that time also.

Again, good luck. Ralph

69FASTFUN, any feedback you would like to relay from your experience. I realize this can be a sensitive experience, but just curious if everything went as expected, and what advice you might want to share.

Ralph.

I had a great experience at the Russo Steele Auction they were very good and I was able to sell my car for above my reserve. I have to admit though I was very nervious Friday leading up to the auction but when I started my car and drove it onto the stage just the sound of my 427 was calming. They did not hound me to lower my reserve because it hit my reserve and then some. I am happy what my car sold for. I talked to several people and they thought that I could have gotten more at Barrett Jackson.

You might have gotten more at B-J, but I kinda doubt it. They have so many 'perfect' or 'near perfect' cars going through there that it is tough to get a very nice car to sell on Friday or Saturday evening. And, if it doesn't sell at those times, the 'Big Buck$' folks aren't there. And, it has seemed to me [on occasion] that there is some risk of nice cars being stuck to 'off' days and being bought by "acquantences" of the B-J folks for less than expected money.

If you got somewhat more than you had hoped, you should be very pleased. Not everyone has that positive outcome.

I am happy what I got. I was at Barrett Jackson and some of the nice cars were detailed very poorly. I choose Russo Steele because I wanted to set a reserve and mine was reasonable.

Nice to see that you got what you wanted.

I'd never risk selling at no reserve!

Had thought about taking my 71 LT1 to Mecum this week but was worried about what sale day they would give me. Their sale last 10 days and a room in Florida for 10 days would be expensive. The web site did not list a LT1 for the sale. Good job with your sale.
